We  worked  on  our  por, olios  picking  our

Self  portraits  came  out  amazing!

Our  latest  ac6vi6es….

A  por&olio  tells  one  person’s  story….

...this  is  why  they  are  important  and  this  is  what  keeps  them  current….

Making  a  line  plot….  ..working  on    a  tally  chart  about

number  of  siblings….

…..students  learned  how  to  show    results  of  a  survey  using  a

line  plot.

Playing  “Two-‐fisted  penny  addi6on”….

Children  recorded  complements  of

numbers  from  5  to  9  as  a  means  of  developing  readiness  for    addi6on  and  subtrac6on  facts,  and  understanding  the  commuta6ve  property

of  addi6on.

Reading  “TIME  for  kids”  ….  This  division  magazine  of  TIME  is  specially  published  for  children  and  wriPen  by  young  reporters.

It  contains  some  na6onal  news,  a  “cartoon  of  the  week”  and  a

variety  of  ar6cles  concerning

popular  culture.

“Exploring  dot  pa9erns  on  dominoes”

Students  played  “domino  top-‐it”.

They  took  turns  finding  the  total  number  of  dots  and  deciding  who  the  winner  was.

Children  learned  how  to  es6mate  sums  using  dominoes.

On  their  journals  they  used

diagrams:  parts  and  total,  to  find  the  total  number

of  dots  on  dominoes.

Units  self-‐assessment…

Students  reflected  upon  their  unit  work  and  how  they  can  improve  it.  Self-‐assessment  encourages  them  to  think  about  their  learning  and

design  strategies  to  reach  our  goals.

“Two-‐fisted  penny  addi6on”

Children  recorded  complements  of  numbers  from  5  to  9…

Exploring  personal  “foot”  and  standard  foot.

Children  compared  their  personal  foot  length  measuring  different  things  in  our  classroom.

Developing  their  measuring  skills…

Measuring  with  a  measuring  tape…

Students  measured  around  and  across  things…

They  talked  about  the  advantages  and  disadvantages  of  measuring  tapes

compared  to  rulers,  yard  s6cks,  and  meter  s6cks.

Building  structures  with  base  10  blocks…

Exploring  shapes  on  the  Geoboard..

We  began  our  3rd  unit  of  inquiry:  How  do  we  express  ourselves.  Our  central  idea  is  :  People  explain  belief  systems  through  stories.    We  began  learning  about  fables  and  read:  The  crow  and  the  pitcher.

If  you  have  any  ideas  for  our  unit,  would  like  to  par6cipate  in  a  storytelling  session  or  specific  workshop,  please  let  me  know!
