Unity is expressed on this site by the location of all the elements on the screen. They are located together in the center of the screen.
VARIETY – PINTEREST.COM
Pinterest shows variety by allowing viewers to see images of all the items other members have “pinned.” By doing this variety is added to flow and layout of the website.
BALANCE – WORDPRESS.COM
Wordpress is a good example of the design principle of balance because the weight of the dark banner across the screen breaks up all the white space but still pulls it all together.
SCALE AND PROPORTION – VANS.COM
The way the image boxes decrease in size as they go down the page shows an example of scale and proportion throughout the site.
RHYTHM – TWITTER.COM
Twitter shows rhythm by the way the layout of “followers tweets” falls on the page. This layout draws viewers eyes down the page and gets them to continue reading.
EMPHASIS - NIXON
Nixon uses contrast within their site to show emphasis. The contrast between the lighter image of the man on the stairs and the darker image of the women is a good example of the design principle emphasis.
SIMPLICITY – AE.COM
American Eagle has made their site more simple by having the white back drop and by having direct links to the main elements of their site located right on the banner. This makes navigation through the site much more simple.
