• Over all ring length 40,000km• 2 fiber pairs• Hub nodes – central offices• Access nodes – Cable stations• 8 OADMS in underwater link• Protection: if there is a fiber cut on link between

two hub nodes , the access nodes between two hubs can still reach one of the hub nodes

• Static Wavelength Routing testbed• Level 0 –LAN, Level 1- MAN• 20 wavelengths spaced 50 GHz • Odd numbered wavelengths are used in level 0• Even Numbered wavelengths are used in level 1• A service – Simple circuit switched light paths • B service – Circuit switched service provides pre assigned

time slots on light path• C Service – Datagram service , runs as broadband

1. If Working fiber is lost, protection fiber will loop the traffic

2. 1+1 path protection – where same traffic is sent on both the working and protection fibers in opposite directions

• Channel selection is done by electronic thin film based filters

• Channel powers were equalized using separate attenuators for each channel

• ProtectionEach wavelength carry a pilot tone used

to detect and solve failure
