Operating the water pump

Recycling water in the stonemasonry workshop

Operating the water pump

• Water is needed during stonemasonry operations to – Control dust hazard– Cool cutting and grinding tools– Lubricate honing and polishing processes– Clean work area

• Recycled water is contaminated with sediment and must NOT be allowed to exit the property

you must complete an induction before using this equipment

Operating the water pump

• The pump recirculates water around the stonemasonry wet area

• The water returns to the sump

• The sump acts as a water reservoir and settlement pond for the sediment

• The sump is topped up with town water during use

• The sump is accessed by a lid

Operating the water pump

• The electrically powered pump draws water from a sump, through a foot valve inlet

• The sump holds approx. 3600 litres and requires occasional topping up

• The water level must always be above the foot valve inlet, to avoid “cavitation” (sucking air)

• The top up tap maintains the water level• Closing the top up tap after use prevents water

wastage in case of hose failure• Opening the pump outlet prevents overheating

the pump when it is running

Operating the water pump

• Water supply must be– Reliable

• Keep the sump full of water• Maintain the pump

– Clean• Clean the filters regularly• Empty sediment from the sump regularly

– Environmentally friendly• Ensure NO overflow to stormwater or sewer• Minimise water wastage
