Awajishima Island Map ❶ Akashi kaikyo-Ohashi Bridge Akashi Kaikyo is the world's longest suspension bridge built using advanced bridge technology. Each season the bridge is lit up at night in different colors and the Awaji Service Area has an observation deck and Ferris wheel that provide magnificent views.
❷ NIJIGEN NO MORINIJIGEN NO MORI is an anime-themed amusement park that uses the latest technologies to offer a two-dimensional experience like no other. Attractions that immerse visitors into a mystical world and activities integrating two-dimensional media add new value to the "cool Japan" content.
❸ Awaji-Yumebutai / Kiseki-no-Hoshi Botanical Museum Designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, the structure is garnering attention for its environmentally friendly elements. Visitors will also enjoy the one hundred flower beds and adjoining steps terraced up the mountain slope.The Kiseki-no-Hoshi Botanical Museum is one of Japan's largest greenhouses, and not only are numerous rare plants on exhibit, the facility also hosts colorful flower shows that convey floral culture from around the world. Fashionable garden layouts are also on display to offer a truly relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy a different ambience in each season throughout the year.
❹ Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park A park where you can enjoy a wide variety of flowers in all four seasons. There are a number of excellent viewing spots and plenty of play areas for children, including a vast assortment of playground equipment.
❺ Awaji HanasajikiVarious flowers bloom here on 15 hectares of hilltop meadows with panoramic views of Akashi Kaikyo-Ohashi Bridge and Osaka Bay in the background. The different flowers in each season will transport you into a dream world.
❻ Water Temple(Honpukuji-Mizumidou)This temple is the work of acclaimed architect Tadao Ando who designed it so that the main temple lies beneath a concrete oval lotus pond. The architectural style makes
use of both innovative ideas and natural elements.
❼ Hokudan Earthquake Memorial Park(Nojima Fault Preservation Museum)Awajishima Island was hit by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. Nojima Fault caused the earthquake and was preserved in the museum. Memorial House survived earthquake even though fault line was in the garden. In the Earthquake Experience Hall, you can experience two tipes of shaking. You can learn fear of earhquake and what happened at the time of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
❽ Izanagi-Jingu Shinto ShrineIzanagi Jingu Shinto Shrine is known to be one of the oldest in Japan. Within the shrine precinct stands a 900-year-old camphor tree known as Meoto Ookusu, and it is a sacred symbol for both young and old who pray for happy marriage, safe childbirth, and good luck in finding a partner.
❾ Incense Production Area Awajishima Island has long been recognized as an incense-producing region. There are many small workshops and stores particularly in the village of Ei, where you have the rare chance to make incense yourself.
10 Awaji World Park ONOKOROThis amusement park includes a miniature world that has famous buildings and structures from around the world recreated at 1/25 of their original size. Other popular attractions include the zip-line adventure and go-carting area.
11 Mt. Senzan / Senkoji TemplePart of the creation myth of Japan, Senkoji Temple was built atop Mt. Senzan, and has long been an area of worship for island residents.
12 Sumoto Castle Ruins A castle was built on the summit of Mt. Mikuma between the 15th and 16th centuries. Today only the impressive stone walls from earlier days remain. It is a popular spot for a light hike, and from the top you can see panoramic views of the coastline.
13 Ohama Swimming BeachOne of the finest beaches on the island. You can also take a long stroll along a
promenade of pine trees.
14 Sumoto Onsen(Hot Spring)Sumoto Onsen is Awajishima Island's largest hot spring area from which guests can gaze upon Osaka Bay. Visitors can enjoy a free outdoor footbath here, too.
15 Narugashima IslandA feature of the uninhabited island is the outstretching 2.5 km long sandbar. Travelers can take a short boat ride to the island and see the many precious plants and creatures that live there.
16 Awajishima Monkey CenterA park for wild Japanese macaques. The monkeys cannot be seen in the area in the autumn as they retreat deep into the mountains to feed upon the ripe fruits and berries.
17 Wellness Park GoshikiThis is a comprehensive park offering a range of facilities such as hot springs, camping areas, barbecues, picking farms, workshops, sports fields, and more.
18 Keino-Matsubara Swimming Beach Chosen as a national place of scenic beauty, this 2.5 km long sandy beach is surrounded by a huge pine tree forest with tens of thousands of trees. It is a popular spot to see the sunset and take a stroll on a long walking path.
19 Awaji Farm Park England Hill The 'England' area has a lake and a wealth of greenery where you can see flowers blooming across all four seasons, and even try your hand at harvesting vegetables. In the 'Green Hill' area, you can see adorable animals such as koalas and rabbits, and learn how to bake bread or make butter.
20 Awajishima RanchHave a go at milking a cow or feeding a calf and experience dairy farming first hand. Visitors can also try their hand at making butter and learning how to harvest vegetables, all amongst the fresh air and abundant greenery.

㉑ Yuzuruha Dam ParkIn the spring, you can take a 2 km walking course around the dam to see the area enveloped by gorgeous cherry blossoms. Their reflection in the water is exquisite.
㉒ Uzu-no-Oka Onarutokyo Bridge Memorial Museum/ Uzushio(Whirlpool)Science CenterGet a great view of the Naruto Strait and Onarutokyo Bridge from elevated ground. The whirlpool science center shows how the whirlpools form through easy-to-understand, enjoyable videos and a large water diorama.
㉓ Awaji Ningyo-za TheatreAwaji's ningyo-joruri puppet performance is designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property that has a nearly 500-year history. The puppetry performance has an emotional storyline and shamisen accompaniment that charm all those who watch. Experience this unique art form at a theatre dedicated to its performance.
㉔ Naruto Strait Whirlpools This natural phenomenon is formed by the ebb and flow of the tide every six hours. The whirlpools are said to be some of the largest in the world, reaching almost 30 meters in diameter at their largest. (Two companies run whirlpool-viewing boat tours.)㉕ Cape Naruto A spectacular view of the Naruto Strait. From the observation deck you can see the world's third largest whirlpools(make sure to check times), and the magnificent bridge across the strait.
㉖ Nada Kuroiwa Narcissus Field Mt. Yuzuruha stands 608 meters above sea level. Approximately seven hectares of five million wild narcissus grow on a steep, 45-degrees incline from mountaintop to sea. The viewing season is late December to late February.
㉗ Nushima IslandA small island just 4.6 km off the coast of Awajishima Island. It is about 10 km in circumference and features a large, mysterious rock known as Kamitategami Iwa, and precipitous cliffs that extend around the perimeter. The island is part of Setonaikai National Park.

Awajishima Island is full of tourist spots easily accessible from Osaka or KobeThere are various ways to get to the tourist attractions of Awajishima Island from places like Osaka or Kobe in only a short time. As well as a high-speed ferry, plenty of options like express buses run from Osaka and Kobe, meaning you can be on the island in around an hour.To get around the island itself, in addition to rental cars and taxis, you can use the network of route buses. Also, at any of the three tourist offices on the island you can hire bicycles. Trips focused on any of the many onsen hot spring hotels scattered around the island are also highly recommended.

Awaji Farm Park England Hill�e 'England' area has a lake and a wealth of greenery where you can see flowers blooming across all four seasons, and even try your hand at harvesting vegetables. In the 'Green Hill' area, you can see adorable animals such as koalas and rabbits, and learn how to bake bread or make butter.
