IntroductionIntroduction
Most often, sectional views are important to give info on the inner details of an object.
There are many times when the interior details of an object cannot be seen from the outside.

• To show the inside details of a component it is imagined to be cut or sectioned along a plane, the cutting plane. Cutting planes are designated with capital letters, such as A-A.

• Surfaces cut by the cutting plane are usually hatched at an appropriate angle, say 45° with a density of lines in proportion with the component.
• Symmetrical parts can be shown in half sections. Part or 'broken out' sections can be used.

• Hatching is a method of filling parts of drawings with patterns made up from lines. To call on the Hatch tool, you can either:
• Click on Hatch from the Draw dropdown button• Type in command: bhatch OR bh, ENTER• As we have covered in orthographic projection,
hatching is essential when it comes to sectional views.

Firstly, construct a polygon. Then, create a new layer called Hatch. Select a different colour for this layer.
• Command: bhatch, ENTER• Boundary Hatch and Fill window will appear.• Select pattern from the Swatch field (choose Earth)• Select angle of pattern (45°), and Scale (2).• Click on PickPoints. The window will disappear.• Click in the middle of your polygon. Then right click and
choose Preview. OK

Associative HatchingAssociative Hatching• Turning ON the Associative option in the
‘Hatch and Gradient’ window is an important feature of Hatch.
• It allows you to move object without disturbing the original hatch.

Exercise: Sectional ViewConstruct the given two-view projection drawing, but in place of the front view construct a sectional view based on a cutting plane passing centrally through the plan. Use ANSI 31 as your hatch pattern.
