Cause and Effect Prior Knowledge Word Structure Vocabulary

Prior Knowledge

Prior knowledge is what a reader already knows about a subject. Good readers use their prior knowledge to help them understand information as they read.

Cause and Effect

The effect is the action that happens. The cause is why it happens. Example: The girl got dirty because

she fell in a mud puddle. Cause: because she fell in a mud puddle▪ (Why it happened)

Effect: The girl got dirty ▪ (What happened)

Word Structure

Prefixes and suffixes have their own meanings. When you see an unfamiliar word, check to see if a prefix or suffix has been added to the base word. This will help you figure out a word’s meaning.
