THUNDER CLAPS:

HOT BATS ON THE ROAD: The Thunder bats were scorching-hot on their recent 7-game roadtrip in which they

were 5-2 @ Bowie and @ Akron. Due to a pair of doubleheaders, the Thunder offense batted in 55 innings and scored

41 runs over the seven games (5.9 RPG). The 41 runs were scored on 77 hits (77-for-232, .332 AVG) which raised the

team average from .247 up to .255 which is now good for 5th in the Eastern League.

FLEXING THE MUSCLE: The Thunder set season-best marks in a number of offensive categories in Thursday’s 13-

8 victory over the Bowie Baysox and Sunday’s 12-2 victory over the Akron RubberDucks:

@ Bowie: Most runs in a game, 13 // Most hits in a game, 17 // Most XBH in a game, 6 // Most runs in an inning, 6

@ Akron: Most XBH in a game, 6 // Most runs in an inning, 7 // Most hits in an inning, 7 // Most HR in a game, 3

HIGH-WATER MARK: The Trenton Thunder are a season-best 18-games over .500 at 47-29 (.618) after Saturday’s

doubleheader sweep over Akron. A year ago, Trenton’s best record was 10-games over .500 at 35-25 (.583) and 9-

games over .500 in 2013 at 23-14 (.622). The last time the Thunder were at least 16-games over .500 was the final day

of the season in 2012 (9/3) when they finished the year 79-63 (.556). That season, the high-water mark was 25-games

above .500 at 70-45 August 7th.

BULLPEN FEELING BULLISH: The Thunder bullpen has been touched for 19 runs (16 ER) over its last 18G.

Starting with Cale Coshow in the 12th inning Thursday 6/9 @ Binghamton, the Thunder ‘pen has allowed 16 ER in its

last 36.1 IP (3.96 ERA). Over the 20G leading into that 12th inning, the Thunder bullpen had posted a 1.29 ERA (69.2

IP, 10 ER) and a 1.75 ERA (118.1 IP, 23 ER) over the last 30G.

IT’S NICE TO BE CLOSE AT HOME: Trenton’s record in close games this season at ARM & HAMMER Park (one-

or two-run games) is 18-3 after winning a 3-1 game Sunday afternoon. After sweeping Saturday’s doubleheader @

Akron, the Trenton Thunder are now 6-15 in such games on the road, including picking up a pair of one-run road

victories after entering the day 1-12 in one-run road games.

GET A HIT, WE DARE YOU: For the season, the Thunder are allowing opponents to bat .234 off them (566-for-

2,416), which is now tops in the E.L. ahead of Harrisburg’s .240 BAA (602-for-2,505) and Akron’s .246 BAA (634-for-

LAST GAME:

AKRON, OH – Kyle Higashioka’s bat stole the show for the Trenton Thunder in a 12-2 blowout win over the Akron RubberDucks

Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. Before 7,021 fans the Thunder earned their largest win of the season, eclipsing a 9-2 victory over the

Binghamton Mets May 30th.

The Thunder catcher had a double and two home runs to drive in a career-high seven runs. He began the scoring in the top of the 1st

inning with a two-out RBI double plating Mark Payton with two outs. Lane Adams followed with an RBI single to give the Thunder

a 2-0 lead before starter Caleb Smith took the mound.

The game remained 2-0 until the 4th inning when Jose Rosario plated a pair of runs with a triple, quickly followed by Michael

O’Neill’s first Double-A homer to make it 6-0. The bases were empty with two outs when Payton and Miguel Andujar singled to

bring up Higashioka again. For the third time since returning from the disabled list Thursday, he homered and opened up a 9-0

Thunder lead. The 4th inning featured seven runs and seven hits in the inning, which both were season-highs for the Thunder

offense. Trenton did not score again until the 9th inning when Higashioka connected on another three-run homer to extend the lead

from 9-2 to 12-2. With seven RBI, the 26-year old from Huntington Beach, CA tied the franchise record—joining Brandon Laird from

June 24, 2010 at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, PA. The game also marked the first multi-HR game of the season for a Thunder batter since

April 2015 when Eric Jagielo had a two-homer game.

The Thunder starter, Smith, needed just 64 pitches to go 5.0 scoreless innings and allow just two hits as he earned his first win of the

season. The only arm needed out of the bullpen was LHP Nestor Cortes who finished the game with 4.0 innings, allowing just one hit

in his Double-A debut. The 21-year old, who was called up from Single-A Charleston before the game, retired the first two men he

faced in the 6th inning out of the bullpen before walking Bradley Zimmer with two outs. Clint Frazier connected on a two-run homer

in the to put the lone two runs of the day on the scoreboard for the ‘Ducks.

With the win, the Thunder are a season-best 18 games above .500, 47-29. The Reading Fightin Phils and Hartford Yard Goats both

lost, so Trenton moves to 6.0 games from 1st place in the East Division and they are 5.5 games ahead of Hartford for the second

playoff spot in the division.

The Thunder pile on the bus and return to Trenton to kickoff a seven-game homestand starting Monday against the Portland Sea

Dogs. The first three games of the homestand are against the Sea Dogs before the Thunder take-on the Richmond Flying Squirrels in

a four-game series leading up to the July 2nd and 3rd Independence Day Spectacular fireworks shows. First pitch for Monday’s

ballgame is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with pregame cover age beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 91.3 FM WTSR and online at

career (204)…graduated in 2010 from Huntsville H.S. (Tex.)… Selected by the Yankees in the 14th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft… Grew up

as a Philadelphia Phillies fan, watching Cole Hamels as often as he could to try and emulate him on the mound... When picking between the in-state

MLB teams in Texas, he’s more of a Rangers fan (188 miles from hometown) than an Astros fan (70 miles)...
