• The intention of LOS is to relate the traffic service quality to a given flow rate of traffic. It is a term that designates a range of operating conditions on a particular type of facility.

1 INTRODUCTION -Limitations of IRC 106:1990

1. No revisions are made since 1990.2. The capacity values described are much low for

the present scenario.3. LOS is area specific and no provisions are

provided according to areas.4. It is proposed only for mid block sections and not

at intersections.5. It is based on HCM 1985-which is developed for

homogenous traffic.6. Only free flow speed is considered as the

parameter to define

Introduction• Computational simulation has the advantage of

allowing the assessment of system's behavior before it is developed or produced in real life.

• Traffic simulation is necessary because this kind of application domain is inherently complex, usually formed of diverse entities (vehicles, traffic controllers, pedestrians etc.) that present different interactions reflecting social behaviors (e.g. competition, collaboration).

SUMO - • SUMO allows modelling of intermodal traffic

systems including road vehicles, public transport and pedestrians.

• Microscopic simulation - vehicles, pedestrians and public transport are modeled explicitly

• Time schedules of traffic lights can be imported or generated automatically by SUMO
