TOURISM STRATEGY FOR 2023
Turkey government has a ten-year strategic plan for tourism. The current plan runs from
2013 to 2023, Its objectives include:
To ensure sustainable development of tourism, Increasing alternative tourism ( golf
tourism, eco and plateau tourism, thermal tourism)
To make 12 months tourism
To become top-five tourism destination
60 million visitors + $50 billion revenue in 2023
Try to increase the market from Western Europe to Eastern Europe (from 17% to 54%)

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM
Kaya and Smardon reported the following impacts of
tourism on Antalya coast:
Constructions for residential area erode agricultural
land , coastal and forest
Air pollution and waste.
Endangered to the cliffs alongside the coast
Threat to historical and cultural assets
SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS
Rising prices and cost of living Increased crime rate Traffic congestion Overpopulation ( almost doubled every
decade since 1970s)
SUSTAINABLE CONSERVATION
Atik.M (2010) researched about the awareness of the managers in recreation sites: Water conservation(62.5%) Energy conservation(37.5%) Waste management (25% )
Coastal and Beach use(31.3%) The rise of environmental awareness,
education and training, on a wider scale, are required. (Coakley, 2003)
SUMMARY Although there is awareness about environmental
protection and sustainable tourism , there is no action plan.
Need cooperation with different organizations and cost-effectives initiatives. (Atik.M,2010)
A local initiatives on environmental protection for coastal in Antalya would improve and strengthen the existing approach.( Kay and Alder , 2005)
Should also focus on socio-economic and cultural sustainable tourism.
