Tomachina

a Chinese version of La Tomatina Wanjiang Township in China was the venue for a massive tomato fight

Imitation

• The event was an imitation of La Tomatina, the annual tomato fight held in the Spanish town of Bunol, near Valencia.

• A war began and ended in China Sunday, staining the streets crimson red. But the thick red liquid that flowed throughout Wanjiang Township wasn't blood, it was tomato juice.

The tomatoes were squished before throwing to prevent injury

• Inspired by the Tomatina Festival held annually in Bunol, Spain, the Chinese held an imitation of the famous tomato fight using about 15 tons of tomatoes.

In a nod to the tomato war's Spanish origins, the event featured flamenco dancers..

......and Spanish stories acted out through the medium of dance

The event was organised by the South China Mall and the Dongguan Tourism Bureau
