Effects of smoking

Smoking Affects the immune system which increases the risk of getting cancers.

Increases your heart rate which can led to heart attacks.

One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit half of these deaths will occur in middle age.

It slows your blood flow, cutting off oxygen to your feet and hands. Some smokers end up having their limbs amputated.

Tobacco Industry

Tobacco, is one of the most widely used addictive substances in the world

The tobacco industry includes people and companies engaged in the growth, preparation for sale, shipment, advertisement, and distribution of tobacco and tobacco-related products.

The tobacco industry is worth $157 billion dollars.

They spend $8.4 billion on advertising annually.

Second Hand Smoke Facts

Second-hand smoke in a vehicle can be 23 times more toxic than in a house because of the smaller space.

Second-hand smoke has twice as much nicotine and tar compared to the smoke that the smoker inhales. 

Second-hand smoke causes between 1,100 – 7,800 deaths per year in Canada.

Smoking-related diseases kill 1 in 10 adults globally

Someone dies every eight seconds from tobacco use

Every minute 10 million cigarettes are sold

Among teens (aged 13 to 15), about one in five smokes worldwide.

Approximately 80% of adult smokers started smoking before the age of 18.

14.8% of male deaths last year were caused by smoking8.4% of female deaths last year were caused by smoking
