Ready, Set, Go!Journal Prompt => A tissue is a group or mass of similar cells working together to perform a vital function. There are 4 major types of tissue. What type of tissue do you think your cell belongs to?

In Science, when we talk about tissue

we aren’t talking about

a box of Kleenex!

Agenda

1. Ready, Set, Go!2. Cell Demos and Guess What!3. Do Now – Partner and Jigsaw4. Just for Fun5. Journal Close

Objectives

• Describe the basic structure and function of various types of cells (7.4.2)

• Describe the levels of organization in organisms (7.4.3)

• SWBAT explain what happens when cells work together and when tissues work together

• SWBAT recount one type of tissue and one organ that their cell type has given rise to

Cell Demonstration

• Demo 3 - Tissues

Guess What! - Tissues

Epithelial TissueFound throughout the body, covers all body surfaces both inside and out.

Connective TissueProvides support, protection, framework, fills space, stores fat, produces blood cells, fights infection, and helps repair tissue

Muscle TissueMuscle tissue provides posture and body support, locomotion, and heat production

Nerve TissueNerve tissue reacts to stimuli and conducts impulses to various organs in the body to bring about a response to stimuli

Think About It

What happens when 2 or more tissues work together?

Organs

When 2 or more tissues work together, they form organs:

Do Now1. With your partner, research whether your cell composes connective, epithelial, nervous, or muscle tissue. Record your answer in the first row of your GO and the source where you found the information.

Do Now2. Now that you know your tissue type, figure out at least one type of organ your tissue is responsible for forming and the source where you found the information.

Do Now3. Form a jigsaw group with one representative from each type of cell. Present your findings to your group and record the information presented by other members of your group in.

Do Now4. Pay attention to the following slides and record 2 examples of organs that are composed of all 4 types of the major tissues.

The Stomach

The Heart
