Relieving Principal’s Message
Our primary role as a school is the education of your children. An important part of this is maintaining positive partnerships between home and school and working with parents. Sadly sometimes relationships break down and the court makes orders that change the contact parents can have with their children or the role they play in making decisions about their children’s education. These can be Family Court Orders or Apprehended Violence Orders. If this happens it is important that you provide the school with a copy of any court orders that could impact on your child’s education. In the absence of any notification to the contrary, the school will assume that both parents continue to retain a shared and equal parental responsibility for their children and should be involved in making any decisions regarding their children’s education. This means that the school will recognise that each parent has equal duties, obligations, responsibilities and opportunities in relation to matters involving the school. If any changes occur in your family relationships which have the potential to impact on the relationship between the school and your family, please advise the school immediately and provide a copy of any court orders that may be obtained. These orders will be stored securely and only accessed by staff who need to see them in order to plan for your children’s learning and support and related issues. A year 2 boy visited me this week and showed me his “Happy Book”. I loved it. We took a selfie so he could stick it into his book. On the first page of his book he had this quote from one of my favourite people and it’s the thought I’d like to leave you with this week. :
Today you are YOU That is TRUER than true There is NO ONE alive
Who is YOUER than YOU! Dr Seuss

ANZAC Day Celebrations Our final two ANZAC celebrations have taken place in the last week. Saturday 25 April at 6:30am - 60 students joined Mrs Collins, Mrs Reason, Mrs Benson and myself to represent our school at the Dawn Service. These students attended in full school uniform. Their behaviour during the parade and service was outstanding. Monday 27 April we were honoured to have Mr Jai Rowell MP and members of Picton Thirlmere Bargo RSL sub branch and Picton ANZAC Day committee attend our school service. The student leaders hosted the assembly and did the school proud. I’d also like to acknowledge the efforts of Josh Monteforte from Picton High school who performed the role of our bugler for the service. He took time out of his busy year 12 studies and deserves to be congratulated for his efforts. Thank you to the P & C for providing morning tea.
School Counsellor We have had the pleasure of having Mrs Emma Shaw as our School Counsellor for Term 1 this year. Mrs Shaw has had the opportunity to meet with many students, parents and staff in her short time here and during this time she became an integral member of our school team. Mrs Shaw had her last day at Thirlmere this week and she will now be moving to work in schools in the Campbelltown area. On behalf of the Thirlmere community I’d like to thank her for the outstanding contribution she made to our school in such a short period of time. On a positive note I’d like to welcome back to the Thirlmere community Ms Sue Buxton who has been a school counsellor and District Guidance Officer for many years and has had a long history of working with our school and staff. Ms Buxton will be at Thirlmere on a Tuesday and Wednesday commencing next week.

SCHOOL FINANCE & OFFICE NEWS
Payments and Excursions All excursions and sporting events have a last day to pay date. Parents are asked to have payments to the office before this date, as our system will not allow payments to be processed after the date. This will avoid any disappointment for your child.
Thank you Administration Staff
Band News This Term we have had a 9 week program. Invoices for Term 2 will be sent home Friday, 1st May 2015.
If you have not made payment for Term 1, then your child will not be able to attend lessons from next week until their account is up to date. Payment is now overdue to the Tutor.
Payments – Reminder Parents, you are able to relieve the stress on your budget by making payments in advance for any upcoming event, such as excursions or camps, instead of having to make a large lump sum payment. Payments can be small regular amounts or any amount when you happen to have a little extra money. If you think this might be helpful to you, the Admin Staff would be very happy to assist.
