TheraBands

4

Thera Bands

A stretchy, elastic, rubber-like material which is used for physical therapy….

Thera-bands were first introduced by the Hygienic Corporation in 1976 for

use in rehabilitation

Types of Therabands

Theraband Color : Yellow

Theraband Thickness: Thin

Intensity : 2.5lb

Theraband Color : Red

Theraband Thickness: Medium

Intensity : 4.5 lb

7

Theraband Thickness: Extra heavy

Theraband Thickness: Heavy

Theraband Color : Green

Theraband Color : Blue

Intensity : 5.0 lb

Intensity : 7.5 lb 8

Intensity : 9.0 lb

Theraband Thickness: Special heavy

Theraband Color : Silver

Theraband Color : Black

Theraband Thickness: Super heavy

Intensity : 15.0lb 9

HOW To Use TheraBands Step 1 Find an Object that’s is stable.

Step 2 Secure the resistive band to the stable object.

Step 3 Move away from the stable object until the band starts to become taut.

Step 4 Perform eight to 15 repetitions. Repetitions should be performed at a

moderate to slow.

10

HOW To Use TheraBands Step 5Perform two or three sets of the repetitions with the

resistive exercise band. (Endurance and Strength )

Step6If you are using proper technique and are exceeding

20 repetitions without fatigue, you should try a higher resistance color.

11

TheraBand Use• American Physical therapy Association

(APTA) widely used resistive Exercise…. • Rehabilitation of Group of muscle and

joint injuries…… • Improve Endurances• Strength & ROM.

12

13

APPLICATIONs

Shoulder abductors

• Position : Stride standing • Theraband: Attached by sling to the foot on

the side of exercise limb and other end by hand..

14

15

Shoulder flexors

Position Stride standingTherabandunder the foot by sling andother end by hand

16

Elbow FlexorsPosition : Standing

Therband :One end Holding by handand other end is fix to the foot

17

Wrist flexors and Extensors

Position sitting Theraband attached to hand other end below the footMovement supine for flexor and prone for extensor

18

19

Knee extensors• Position Prone lying • Theraband Attach by to foot.

20

Hip Abductors • Position: yard grasp half

standing.Theraband: Attach to medial side

of exercise foot and other end to a fix point.

21

SPRINGs

22

SPRINGs• A device, such as a coil of wire, that returns to itoriginal

shape after being compressed or stretched. Types Of Elastic Springs

Extensible Compresible Torsion

23

Extensible

when this type of spring stretch they offers resistance to muscle

work andAs they recoil they offers assistance to movement….

24

Compressible

Are the spring use in the form of three springs places between two halves of hand grip..

Uses:Hand grip Exercise

25

Torsion A compressible Z-shape steel with the flat

outer part cover by wood or plastic for griping surface ..

Uses:Hand Grip Exercise

26

27

Weight of Springs Coil of the wire and wire diameter can be

varied so that’s spring can offers different quantity of resistance…

Resistance of spring noted on tab at the end of springs….

Ranges of resistance 5 to 25kg

28

Spring In Parallel• Two springs are Arranged side by side

attached to the same point • weight of the resistance parallel will be sum

of the two…

Springs In Series• When two spring are joined end to end • In series resistance offered is the same as if

only one was used…

29

30

Rules of Application • Sufficient support should be required. • Movement should be started from slightly

stretched position.• Suitable resistance should be selected (a) For strength of muscle. (b) part being supported an resisted.• When apply it offer resistance Isotonic

Shortening while assistance in lengthening

31

Contin…• Correct angle of attachment for resistance in

required rang.• To lengthen the rope is attached to fix point of

elastic material and sling to other end. • Spring not use: (a) in head movement due to noise

production which irritate patient. (b) On naked body it may cached hair or

pinched skin when it recoil. 32

Application on lower limb

33

Hip Abducters • Position: yard grasp half standing.Spring: attach by sling to medial side of exercise foot and other end to a fix point.Resistance: 5kg to 10kg.

34

35

Hip adductors• Position: Half yard grasp standing.• Spring; Attach to lateral side of foot by sling and

other end to a fix point .• Resistance; start low weight then gradually

increase.

36

37

Hip extensors• Position Reach grasp standing.Spring anterior side of foot by sling and to a fix

point.Resistance 5kg to 10 kg.

38

39

Knee extensors

• Position Prone lying • Spring Attach to planter surface of foot and

other to fix point. • Resistance 5kg to 10 kg.

40

4141

Foot planter flexors

42

• Position Half lying • Spring

patient hold handle and other end attach to fore foot.

• Resistance 10 kg to 15kg.

4343

Foot Doriflexors

• Position: half lying OR setting on chair leg straightSpring : Attached to foot by sling and other end to a fix

pointResistance: 5 to 10kg

44

4544

Thrust Combine movement of a limb

bicycling Position : Supine lying• Spring : Attach to the dorsal side of foot• Movement :Bicycling movement with

isotonic shortening and lengthening perform.

45

47

46

APPLICATIONS ON UPPER LIMB

47

Shoulder abductors

• Position : Stride standing • Spring : Attached by sling to the foot on the

side of exercise limb and other end by handle• Resistance : 5 to 10kg

49

50

51

Shoulder flexors

Position: Stride standingSpring : dorsal side of the foot by

sling and other end by handle

Resistance : 5 to 10kg

51

Elbow Flexors

Position : short sitting Spring :attached to fore foot at right side for

right arm other end hold by handleResistance : 5 to 10kg

52

5353

Elbow Extensors

Position : supine lyingSpring : Attached to above and behind head

and other end hold by handleResistance 5 to 10kg

54

5555

Wrist Extensors

Position: short sitting Spring attached to hand and other end is fixed

to footResistance : 5 to 10kgMovement prone hand
