LocationThe Waterfront Schoolfirst opened its doors inSeptember 1997.   Our location at thefoot of Bathurst Street,places us in a uniquesituation at the edge ofthe re-vitalized TorontoWaterfront close to theheart of the city.  Ouraward winning buildinghas been featured inarchitectural magazinesacross Canada. One of the benefits ofthis unique location isthe partnership andexpanded learningopportunities available. We are an integral partof the community by thewater.

Our school serves the community bounded by York Street on theeast, Stadium Road on the west between Lakeshore Blvd andQueens Quay West. We are a diverse population including gradesfrom Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.  Ours is an inclusive approach to education and schooling, forwhich we have received recognition from the Toronto CommunityLiving Association and the Director of Education of Canada'slargest school board.

Our MissionHigh expectations for all of ourstudents. We believe they can all besuccessful. We have a positiveschool culture where well-being is apriority for students and staff. Weensure that we listen to student voiceand value the identity of eachstudent. We have built strong relationships with our parents insupporting our students’ learning and we appreciate thecollaboration of our School Council in supporting student success.

KindergartenKindergarten is a big step in your child's life.  We make thetransition a wonderful experience for your child and a reassuringdecision for you.  A safe and welcoming Kindergarten, coupled withbalanced academic and social programs, provides the bestfoundation to nurture your child's abilities.

Feed a Student Nourish a MindAt Waterfront we provide a nutritious morning meal nutritionprogram to all students.  A child needs to be nourished in order forthe mind to learn.  Supported by the Toronto Foundation for StudentSuccess, we also request monthly contributions from our parents aswell as donations from our community partners.  Every child, everyday receives a morning snack.

Student Life - Where You Belong

The Waterfront School supports the arts through manydifferent venues.  Visual arts, dance, drama and musicinstruction throughout the curriculum in all grades as well asthrough field trips. Students are engaged in ECO activities throughout the yearas well as the The Terry Fox Run, Food Drive for Fort YorkFood Bank.  Our athletic teams include basketball,cross-country, soccer, volleyball and track and field.

The Waterfront School has been recognized by the TorontoOccasional Teachers Local as the as the School ofExcellence. These awards recognize the support and respect shown tothe Occasional Teachers who work in our school.  As soon as you walk through the front doors of the school,you are aware of our warm, welcoming, family atmosphere.  

Parent and Community Engagement

Our active School Council collaborates with us to increase studentsuccess.  Their moto is: "Together We Are Better."   We welcomevolunteers to help with our Morning Meal program.  We are veryappreciative of our parent volunteers.   Some of our communitypartners include: Waterfront Regeneration Project, Fort York, TheMusic Garden, local co-ops, CFMT-TV, Metro and Marine Police,Parks and Recreation, The Pier Museum, Toronto Raptors, TheWaterfront Neighbourhood Community Centre, St. Stephen'sChildcare, City School Alternative Secondary School, Harbourfront(Arts) Centre, Arcadia Co-op, The National Ballet, Toronto PublicHealth and Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning.
