Welcome to another addition of the Rottweiler Review, I hope everyone is keeping warm and trying to get out and about with your furry ones as much as possible. Not a lot to report in this edition except to say that we held our June Championship show for the first time at the German Shepherd Dog Club of SA at West Beach on the weekend of 17/18/19th June and I am thrilled to report that there has been nothing but good feedback about the show since. The grounds were fantastic, The shepherd club we extremely accommodating and couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly if they tried, the show its self was great and greatly judged by Mr Josef Mravik who, himself has received nothing but praise and thanks from all those that entered and even the exhibitors have said how much they enjoyed it. I think it was the first show I have been involved in, in a long time where not only the exhibitors enjoyed themselves but the committee as a whole did too. I know personally it was fantastic to be packed up and home by 5pm on the Sunday…something which has NOT happened before!! A few thankyou’s to go out for the June show are to our Wonderful Major Sponsor “Vets All Natural” they support and generosity has been amazing. To Janine Koefoed of Rynberg Rottweilers for generously donating all the Glass Trophy Plaques for a show, the consensus was over whelming that everyone LOVED them and it was nice for the club to provide something different and something which showed a well loved& respected Dog of our Breed. To David Palmer for going above and beyond making the lovely wooden stands for the glass plaques to be proudly displayed on. David was given the job one LATE Thursday night after club training and by the very next day presented us with a template, once he got the go ahead they were all done within I think about 2 weeks, no small feat at all. To Josie Effie for once again answering the call of duty and hosting Josef over the 4 days he was here. No request from the judges are ever to big or small, Josie takes them where ever they want to go and the judges love her. To Kirsty Martin for braving the cold weather over 3 days to take some wonderful photos of the show/exhibitors, To Kerry Osborne for her assistance in the breed survey and being Dannielle’s right hand woman!! Last but not least the every hard working committee who work tirelessly to make these shows so successful. Due to the wonderful feedback on the ground and also due to the over whelming support and generosity of the German Shepherd Club, we have once again agreed to hold our October shows there. The schedule is in following later in the magazine, we hope to see you all again then. Recently due to changes in NRCA executive positions nominations went out calling for nominations for an Interim President and Breed Recorder and we then sent to the members for voting The RCSA by majority voted Michael McMahon as Interim President and Susie Baird as Breed Recorder. It is imperative that members read and respond to the emails that the club sends out, so that we can correctly respond on behalf of the members. We are here to work for you and can only help the club/breed if you do. Also you would have hopefully seen the information regarding the Natural Bob Tail Survey being distributed to Rottweiler Owners in Australia, we strongly encourage everyone to read the survey and vote – again we are hoping you vote & do the right thing for our breed!!! So that’s all from me for now. Stay warm and stay well Kind Regards Narelle Medlicott President

Frozen Yogurt Pops for Dogs If your dog loves to chase ice cubes around the kitchen, then he’ll love these frozen treats. They’re made from human grade ingredients and include fruit juice and carrots, which give your pup an added vitamin boost. Yogurt has calcium and protein, and can help your dog digest food.
Note that this recipe calls for non-fat yogurt, which is a much healthier alternative to other types of yogurt, especially if your dog is overweight.
Ingredients
6 oz. container of plain, non-fat frozen yogurt 1 cup of no-sugar added fruit juice 1/2 cup of carrots, minced Directions
1. Add the yogurt, fruit juice, and carrots into a medium-sized bowl. Stir until the ingredients are smooth and well-blended.
2. Drop the mixture into the ice cube trays by spoonful. 3. Freeze until the ingredients are solid. Pro Tip: Use hard plastic trays instead of the softer rubber ones to make the treats. The treats are easier to remove from a hard tray.

What are the benefits of feeding a raw diet to your pets? Although some commercial dry pet foods have improved in recent times, when you transition your pet to a balanced fresh meat diet, you are providing them a health boosting, fully balanced diet that can help reduce a plethora of chronic problems such as obesity, arthritis, allergies, rotten teeth and gums, diabetes and kidney failure. Sometimes a raw deal is the best deal!
It was around 40 million years ago that the earliest pre-historic canines and felines began evolving on planet earth. They caught prey, scavenging, hunting and living on a natural raw diet from the land. The process of evolution has fine-tuned your pets to survive on a natural diet of fresh meat, vegetable matter, fruits, nuts, insects and all manner of scavenged food. Your pet’s digestive
system and overall health needs are absolutely based on consumption of this type of natural diet…It just makes sense! Vets All Natural Complete Mix, Health Rolls or Raw76 all provide natural balanced fresh meat diet options however if your pet is used to a commercial diet, you can at the very least, add some complementary fresh meat to their diet. Not only is it critical to optimum health, but also their mouth will water at the smell and taste of real meat. My diet philosophy is simple – the more balanced fresh meat the better! Why cooking creates deficiencies:
Heat changes the molecular structure of proteins and mutates the protein, which can result in disease such as allergies, as arthritis and renal failure.
It destroys the essential vitamins, fatty acids and enzymes with the food especially if the cooking temperature is too hot.
Cooking decreases food digestibility and bioavailability, therefore reinforcing that a natural raw diet is the perfect plan for your pets. Article can be found on the Vets all Natural website. http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=154ce56770f736e833795f5a0&id=ba518ae7f4

Did you know that your pets can have allergies just like us? Yes just like humans, our beloved animals can develop allergies which are basically an “inappropriate” or “over zealous” reaction of an animals’ (or persons) immune system. Genetics can certainly play a role in your pet developing allergies, but the environment and nutrition will ultimately decide how severely the allergy is expressed. One reality of allergies is that sadly despite all the incredible advances in modern medicine, allergies are still a “chronic” disease and the best we can hope to do is “control” the expression of an allergy, and try to limit the use of drugs required to do so. What can we do to control the immune system?
We first need to understand how and why allergies occur and what are the keys to controlling them. Allergies are an inappropriate immune reaction to a specific allergen, a reaction that is not pre-programmed into our immune systems by the core genetic code but one that is learned or occurs by accident. When it comes to the study of the immune system otherwise know as immunology it is a truly fascinating science that is the driving
force behind many modern medical advances to control the immune system. An interesting fact is that the immune system works almost the same in animal species as it does in humans. There is an ancient and untouched genetic code designed to “protect an animal from disease and activate repair. My quick tips for allergy prevention
Feed a total, natural, raw food diet – but avoid chicken and beef as primary meat sources. Avoid foods with chemical additives, preservatives, food colourings
Add a good multi strain probiotic to the diet
Use rain water for drinking and avoid treated tap water
Avoid using harsh cleaning products, shampoos and chemical spray
Use VAN’s natural soap free shampoo, but wash your dog as little as is practical – you cant “wash away” skin disease.

Complete Mix Grain/Gluten Free is an everyday diet mix to add to fresh meat for adult dogs and puppies. Dr Bruce has formulated this variety for those wanting to feed their dog a Grain/Gluten Free alternative as an everyday diet and is ideal for dogs with a gluten and/or grain intolerance. Dogs that have had ongoing sensitive skin and/or sensitive stomach issues should also consider this variety.
The balanced ingredient and low carbohydrates help to correct underlying intestinal and digestion problems therefore supporting irritable bowls and sensitive stomachs.
If you are feeding a Grain Free dry food, we’d encourage you to add at least some balanced fresh meat with Complete Mix Grain Free and watch your dog enjoy the succulent meat they naturally crave.
