Fidelity or infidelity. Light or darkness. These are some of the
sharp contrasts we see in today's readings. The Book of Chroni-
cles summarizes the choices made by the people of Israel, who
did not listen to God's messengers; it was Cyrus, the Persian,
who helped them restore their lives with God through the Cove-
nant centuries later. In the dialogue between Jesus and Nicode-
mus, the evangelist invites us to recognize that our choices can
lead us to eternal life; to help us choose this, the Son of God
gave himself up for us. It would be helpful for the adults in the
community to explain this idea to the younger parishioners.
What other contrasts between faith and daily life do we discover
nowadays? If God desires our salvation, who is responsible for
the wars and hate we see on the news so often? How can we
avoid these tragedies?

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Holy Sacra-
ment. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into
my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You
were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit
me to be separated from You. Amen.
