“Roaring Camp lay in a valley between two hills and a river. The only way out was a steep trail

over a hill by the cabin.“ (pg. 3)

“Then one night, the North Fork suddenly leaped over its banks. The water went rushing toward Roaring Camp. It swept away everything in its path. It tore down giant trees. Timbers broke.

The darkness seemed to flow with the water and blot out the valley.“ (pg. 8)
