On August 21, 1911, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, one of the most famous paintings in the world, was stolen right off the wall of the Louvre. It was such an inconceivable crime, that the Mona Lisa wasn't even noticed missing until the following day.

Although now the Louvre stands as a museum, it had many different uses. It was originally built to be a defense fortress in the 1200s. It was then turned into a country home, and later into a palace. In 1791 it was declared a museum.

If Musee is Museum and Louvre is palace, does it mean the Museum of Palace?
