Land Expansion

Prior to WWII the entire WMU campus was located east of Stadium Dr.

By 1952 the campus had quadrupled.

Between 1954 and 1964 179 acres were bought north of West Michigan Dr.

WMU’s campus included…

– 2 classroom building (McCracken Hall and Harper Maybee Music Hall)

– An administration building

After the 1970’s Western Michigan University began to add flowers and shrubs to the campus

During this time West Michigan Dr. was closed to create a pedestrian campus
