Meter- is a basic unit of the length.

Kilometer- is used measure long distances.

Basic Conversion Rule: - To convert from a Larger unit to a Smaller unit …. (Multiply) To convert from a Smaller unit to a Larger unit…(Divide)

1 km= 1000m1dm= 10cm

km x1000 m x100cm x10mm

1000 100m 10cm

“CONVERT WEIGHT AND MASS UNITS” From one unit of measure to another

KILOGRAM- Is the basic unit of mass in the metric system, and for heavy object.

MILIGRAMS/GRAMS- For the light object

1kg= 1000g

Changing Larger units to Smaller units

Example: Tessie buys 5 kilograms of

pork meat. What is the weight of the pork meat in grams?Solution: Multiply to change kilogram to gram.

5kg= ___________________5X1000= 5000g5kg= 5000g, Therefore the pork meat is about 5000g.

Changing Smaller units to Larger units.

Example:

Sharon used 1500g of chicken legs and wings for her adobo recipe. What is the equivalent weight of the chicken in kilograms?Solution: Divide to change grams to kilograms.

1500g = ____________1500g ÷ 1000 = 1.51500g= 1.5 kg Therefore the chicken used is about 1.5 kg.

Convert Capacity from one unit of measure another .

Capacity is the amount of container will hold.

The liter (L) is the basic metric unit of capacity.

The milliter (mL) is a metric unit of capacity used to measure small amount. =1L is equal to 1000mL

Changing Larger units to Smaller units

Example: Alvin prepares 3 liters of calamasi juice. How many milliliters of calamansi juice does he have?

Solution: Multiply to change liters to milliliters.

3L= _______________ mL3X1000= 30003L = 3000mL calamansi juice

Changing Smaller units to a Larger unitts. Example:Norma pours 1200 milliliters of liquid soap in a basin. How many liters of liquid soap are in the basin?

Solution: Divide to change mL to liters.

1200mL=_________________1200÷1000 = 1.2 L

Solving problems

1. Paul bought 3L of cooking oil, How many milliliters of cooking oil did he buy?

3L = 3000 mili.3X1000 = 3000

2. Jan bought 5000 milliliters of distilled water coast 15 Pesos how much would e change if he handed In 100 pesos?

5000mL _____________15X5 -10075- 10025 Pesos.
