Tensing Will Go to School!

Retell, Remix, and Rejoice Contest

Tensing was ten years old. He lived up in the hills. He loved whizzing around with his wheely bamboo stick. Sometimes he would go down to the village with his grandmother to buy things from the weekly market.

He had made friends with two village boys,Tembu and Tinshu. Tembu and Tinshu went to the same school. Tensing used to wish he could go to school too but his grandmother did not have money.

Tinshu was worried. He could not find his money bag anywhere. He had been saving money like all the children in school to buy books for the library. He had worked in Mangu Ram’s shop every evening to earn that money. Most of the children had already given their contribution to the headmaster.

“Tembu had come looking for you. He had something very important to tell you. His dog was with him,” said his sister.

Oh no! Did Bholu take my money bag?

Tembu had gone to the fields to collect brinjals and tomatoes. He was worried too. His father had told him that the money that was being collected for the school library had been stolen from the headmaster’s office. Tembu had gone straight to Tinshu’s house to give him the news. Like Tinshu he too had been working hard to save money – growing vegetables and selling them.

Tembu saw Tensing racing down the hill with his bamboo stick. When Tensing heard about the missing money, he said, “I saw some men digging near your field last evening. Could they have stolen the money and hidden it there?”

Tembu and Bholu followed Tensing.

“Come, I’ll show you the place,” shouted Tensing.

Bholu was a good digger. They found the money in a pot. The headmaster was very happy so were all the villagers.

Tensing’s grandmother was the happiest because the headmaster said Tensing could come to the school for free.
