RELIGIOUS SCHOOLFrom the principal
In just a few short weeks, our religious school willclose its doors for the summer. Despite way too muchbad weather, we had a fabulous year, filled with greatlearning and Jewish growing. I am extremely proud ofthe advancements we have made in the area of Jewisheducation this year.
First and foremost, the students deserve a heart)'congratulations for a job well done. Without them andtheir boundless energy, the school serves no real purpose. The enthusiasm and challenges our students bring to theclass gives us as educators the incentive to keep going.Student attitudes often are influenced by the attitudesthey encounter at home. A loud round of applause is dueto the parents of our students who, throughout the year, support our efforts in many ways. Our Religious SchoolCommittee, directed by Fred Freedman and Tina Levine, has worked diligently to ensure the smooth running ofthe school through review of policy and evaluation ofsuggestions and ideas. Many parents have volunteered tohelp with numerous special events - from class projectsto field trips to bookfairs to latkes at Chanukah. There isno way a school our size could function were it not forthe parents. It is a delight to know that whenever weneed help all we have to do is ask! Furthermore, it isevident in the mannerisms and thoughts of our studentsthat parents are supporting us at home as well. I haveexperienced many happy moments hearing stories fromstudents about Shabbat or holiday celebrations - ofmitzvot that are happening at home.
Jewish identity is created through many facets of life- home, synagogue and classroom. The senior staff ofthe congregation has continued to be involved in allaspects of our school and our worship experi-ences. Inthe classroom, it is our teachers who take the lead increating a positive Jewish environment and what a greatjob they do! Our classrooms this year have been moreexciting than ever, thanks to the hard work anddedication of our teachers. Each of our teachers is aprecious gem that fits perfectly into the crown we knowas a school.
Like the cogs of a well—oiled machine, we haveworked together to strengthen our Jewish identity andensure its continued strength through our children. Eachof you has played a part, some way, somehow - and toeach of you a well—deserved thank you.
The end of this month is the holiday of Shavuot, celebrating the giving of the Torah to the Jewish peopleon Mt. Sinai. Each year we celebrate our worthiness of
its teachings. Our commitment to our Jewish lives thisyear has shown without a doubt that we are worthy ofthe Torah - and all it has to offer.

Students not meetingthe requirements, as stated in the Religious SchoolHandbook, will receive a summer assignment. Pleasenote that the issued summer work is not distributed as apunishment. Summer work is given as a way of allowingthe absentee to acquire the information he or she hasmissed in class, in order to be on par with his/herclassmates' level of knowledge when the school yearbegins again in September.
