Air pollution from transportation Health effects of air pollution Mobile source emission testing Emission reduction technologies Tadgers’ contribution to emission reductions

Air Pollution & The Air Pollution & The Transportation IndustryTransportation Industry

Transportation is the largest single source of air pollution in Canada.

2/3 of the carbon monoxide in our atmosphere

1/3 of the nitrogen oxides in our atmosphere

1/4 of the hydrocarbons in our atmosphere

Air Pollution & The Air Pollution & The Transportation IndustryTransportation Industry

Emissions from cars are the leading cause of:

Climate Change – Predominantly C02 emissions Even though vehicles today pollute less the

emissions are growing faster than emissions from any other sector

Transportation accounts for approx. 30% of the GHG in Canada

Light duty vehicles account for 11.7% and trucks account for 8.3% of the GHG emissions in Canada

Air Pollution & The Air Pollution & The Transportation IndustryTransportation Industry

Emissions from cars are the leading cause of:

2. Urban Smog Result of organic compounds and nitrogen

oxide react with warm temperatures and sunlight

It is estimated that smog reduction in Canada’s major cities would result in a $10 billion annual savings

Air Pollution & The Air Pollution & The Transportation IndustryTransportation Industry

Emissions from cars are the leading cause of:

3. Acid Rain Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are

converted in the air to sulphuric acid and nitric acid

Poisons the lakes and rivers, changes the soil chemistry and damages vegetation

30,000 lakes are vulnerable and more than 14,000 have already acidified and can only support primitive life form

Health Effects of Air PollutionHealth Effects of Air Pollution

1900 people die annually in Ontario from breathing poisoned air

Cost to taxpayers in Ontario is $1 billion annually

Diesel fumes increase the risk of cancer

The number of smog alert days has increased over the last 10 years

Health Effects of Air PollutionHealth Effects of Air Pollution Niagara Case Study

85 people die prematurely every year as a result of exposure to air pollution compared to 6 homicides and 26 traffic related fatalities

The direct cost to the taxpayer is $25 million annually in health care costs and $20 million in lost wages and production

The number of smog alert days has increased from 1 day in 1993 to a record 21 days in 2002

Mobile Source Emissions TestingMobile Source Emissions Testing

Ontario Drive Clean Program

Ontario’s new 2004 standards for HDV are the strictest in North America

Annual and Bi-annual testing for all vehicles

Periodic testing and roadside inspection

New standards offer incentives for better maintenance and exceeding the requirements

Mobile Source Emissions TestingMobile Source Emissions Testing

Light Duty Vehicle Testing

ASM 2525 Tailpipe Emission Testing

- 40 km/hr and Curb Idle

Gases tested: HC (ppm), CO (%) & NO (ppm)

Bi-annual testing with limits that are calculated by year and type of engine

Mobile Source Emissions TestingMobile Source Emissions Testing

Heavy Duty Vehicle Testing

SAE J1667 Snap Acceleration Test

Gases tested: Opacity – The amount of light that can be blocked by Particulate Matter (PM) in the exhaust emissions

Annual testing with limits based on the year of the engine. Incentives for bi-annual testing if requirements exceeded

Emission Reduction Emission Reduction TechnologiesTechnologies

Three typical technologies:

1. Post combustion

2. Additives

3. Pre combustion

Emission Reduction Emission Reduction TechnologiesTechnologies

Post Combustion

Typically diesel applications only Oxidation Catalyst Diesel Particulate Filter Selective Catalytic Reduction Selection based on type of contaminant

needed to be reduced Slight increase in fuel efficiency thus

increasing CO2

HOW IT WORKS HOW IT WORKS

The Tadger creates a controlled turbulence through a fixed geometric configuration. This turbulence conditions the fuel to allow it to burn more efficiently. It is installed like an in-line fuel filter on the input fuel line.

What to expectWhat to expect

Reduced black smoke & soot (PM)

Even the heavy carbon buildups on paint

Less maintenance required on side of vehicle, here is dramatic proof…

Ontario Drive Clean is operated by the Province to ensure enhanced vehicle engine performance through reduced emissions.Emission inspections are performed under SAE J1667 Snap Acceleration Test for diesel and ASM 2525 for gas.

Here is an example of several tests by the Province of Ontario Drive Clean Program showing reductions…

Oil AnalysisOil Analysis

Tadger has been tested by Independent third party laboratories to provide analysis of oil samples.

Proven that Tadger keeps oil cleaner longer.

Reduces soot in oil while reducing wear elements.

Mileage Improvements

Through better utilization of detonated fuel/air mixture we enhance mileage.

The result is a reduction in C02

Here is an example of clients experiencing a return on investment…
