Tiered Historians

Application Server

InTouchI/O

Tier-2Centralized reporting & system of record

Tier-1Local troubleshooting & buffering

Tiered Historians: All Data (“Simple”)

Replicate all data for selected or all tags

Tier 1 Example: 1-second data

Tier 2 Example:1-second data

Tiered Historians: Summary Data

Tier 1 Example: 1-second data

Tier 2 Example:5-minute, hourly, daily data

Summary Tag Aggregates

► Analog

▪ Time-weighted average, standard deviation & variance

▪ Integral

▪ First/last value in period with timestamp

▪ Min/max value in period with timestamp

▪ Seconds of “good” values

► State (for each state)

▪ Number of occurrences (partial & contained)

▪ Shortest/longest/average occurrence (partial & contained)

▪ Total/percent occurrence (partial & contained)

Each summary tag has all aggregates

Local Summary Replication

Multiple Tier-2 Historians

Tier-2 to Tier 2 Historians

Tier 2: Site 1 Tier 2: Site 2

Robust Tiered Historians

► Store-forward between tiers

► Spread load across period when possible

► Propagate From Tier 1▪ Store-forward events

▪ Inserts/Updates

▪ “Late” Data

► No tag count increase (150,000)

Summary Retrieval

► Existing 9.0 “Extension Tables”▪ History

▪ WideHistory

▪ StateWideHistory

► New 10.0 “Extension Tables”▪ AnalogSummaryHistory

▪ StateSummaryHistory

► Use all with conventional & summary tags

Broader Usage Of Data

► "Cleansing"▪ More important further from process

▪ Instrument error can accumulate

► Expanded Industrial Aggregation▪ More "time-in-state" aggregates

▪ Floating point "counter"

Reporting Support:

Industrial Data Cleansing

Spikes

“Gaps” or “bad” data quality

Removing Outliers

• Supported for all

modes

• Most useful for

aggregate modes

- Average

- Integral

Example: Removing Outliers

Filter Outliers (“SigmaLimit”)

SELECT DateTime,vValue,StateTime,wwFilter

FROM History

WHERE TagName IN ('Reactor1Level')

AND DateTime >= '2008-07-04 15:00:00'

AND DateTime <= '2008-07-04 17:00:00'

AND wwRetrievalMode = 'avg'

AND wwFilter = 'SigmaLimit(2)'

Estimating Missing Values

• Applies To:

- Counter

- Integral

Interpolate Across Gaps

(“Optimistic”)

SELECT DateTime,vValue,StateTime,wwFilter

FROM History

WHERE TagName IN ('Reactor1Level')

AND DateTime >= '2008-07-04 15:00:00'

AND DateTime <= '2008-07-04 17:00:00'

AND wwRetrievalMode = 'Integral'

AND wwQualityRule = 'optimistic'

How To Aggregate A Discrete?

► Measures▪ Time in a state

▪ Number of transitions to/from a state

▪ Pulse width in time

▪ Duty cycle

► Calculations▪ Total

▪ Minimum/Maximum

▪ Average

▪ Percent

“Saturn”

Treat Analogs As Discretes

“To Discrete”

Use with “ValueState” & “RoundTrip” retrieval

Converting Analogs To

Discretes

• Supported for all

modes

• Most useful for:

• ValueState

• RoundTrip

“ToDiscrete” Filter

SELECT DateTime,vValue,StateTime,wwFilter

FROM History

WHERE TagName IN ('Reactor1Level')

AND DateTime >= '2008-07-04 15:00:00'

AND DateTime <= '2008-07-04 17:00:00'

AND wwRetrievalMode = 'ValueState'

AND wwStateCalc = 'Total'

AND wwCycleCount = 1

AND wwFilter = 'ToDiscrete(12,>)'

Reporting Support:

Industrial Data Cleansing

• Example: Integrating flow rates• Noise/error accumulates

Target ValueTolerance

“Zeroing” Values

• Supported for all

modes

• Most useful for

Integral

• Base values can

be a list

“Zero” Values (“SnapTo”)

SELECT DateTime,vValue,StateTime,wwFilter

FROM History

WHERE TagName IN ('Reactor1Level')

AND DateTime >= '2008-07-04 15:00:00'

AND DateTime <= '2008-07-04 17:00:00'

AND wwRetrievalMode = 'Delta'

AND wwStateCalc = 'Total'

AND wwFilter = 'SnapTo(0.1, 0.0, 1000.0)'

Tolerance

Target Values

-0.1 < x < 0.1 0.0
