Swami does a sum9th Grade, English

The Story

• Swaminathan’s(Swami’s) father had given him a sum about mangoes.

• The more Swami looked at the Sum, he felt more clueless.• When his father gave the problem, he wondered what

kind of man would Rama be. He compared Rama to his friend Shankar as Rama was determined to get fifteen Rupees. He also thought Krishna would be like his friend Pea (Samuel).

• He questioned his father if the mangoes were ripe or not. Without knowing the quality of the mangoes he was not sure if the price was fair. He also was not ready to solve the problem until then.

The Story

• The father got irritated with Swami’s questions, and forced him to solve soon.

• Swami gave up as he could not get answers to the above question and returned the slate to his father without solving the sum.

• The father , not knowing what was mattering Swami, got the slate and asked him to come near him.

• Thinking that his father could solve miraculously, he went near his father.

• Looking at the problem for a second, the father asked him the price of ten mangoes. He was sill clueless.

• The father asked how much Rama was expecting. Swami answered fifteen rupees. Now father asked the next question –”How much mangoes Krishna wanted to buy?” Swami said four. Now he asked what was the price of four mangoes. Swami could not answer.

The Story

• The father was getting restless and threatened to punish him if he did not answer the question. But Swami did not know if he had to do addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to find the solution.

• The more the father threatened, the lesser Swami felt the urgency to solve the problem.

• At last the father gave up and asked him to simplify fifteen over ten rupees.

• He worked out and found out that one mango cost three over two rupees.

• His father appreciated and asked him to simplify it further. He finally found out that the four mangoes costs six rupees and Krishna has to pay SIX Rupees.

Father dictated a mathematical problem for Swami to solve.
