Bio:I started photographing my dog andstuffed animals with my 110 cameraback in the 80's. The camera, be it aAE1, Brownie, Bronica, Polaroid, Pinholein a Tide Box, or an iPhone, has beenthe tool I feel most comfortable usingto create. An eye for detail, a photo-graphic memory and inquisitive, easygoing personality all aid in my behindthe lens expertise. I graduated from theUniversity of Minnesota with a BFAemphasis in photography. Beginning in2000, I photographed weddings, portraits and corporate work under mybusiness Argenté Photographie. Mywork has evolved to focus on art with asmall amount of referral portraiture andprojects. Since emerging with a newartistic vision in 2017, I have beenshowing in group and solo showsacross the metro and my work isfeatured in the Stillwater Art GuildGallery.
Artist Statement:As an abstract photographer, I examinethe often overlooked minutia ofeveryday life. Composing through amacro view I discover patterns, colorsand textures that create uniquelandscapes, familiar shapes andcaptivating repetitions. I depend on thecapture to create my imagery, ratherthan digital manipulation. My capturescan sometimes be deceiving. Myintention is not to trick but to provokethought and engage the viewer’simagination and visual context. Aserendipitous event has led to mycurrent work. While documenting therust on the Stillwater Lift Bridge anoversized RV lost it’s side mirror. Thesurreal, cubist effect is obtainedthrough the use of the shattered, foundobject. Depending on whether I focusinto the reflection or on the surface ofthe mirror, my results can be strikinglyvaried. A Twenty-first Century Fauve, Istrive to transcend the typical conceptof a photograph. I interpret myenvironment with my metal and glassbrush, focusing on experiment andexpression rather than on realities.
