THERE’S NO DENYING ITSTORMS ARE COMING

Before the storm

Cobb EMC works throughout the year to plan for inclement weather and prevent any storm-induced power outages, and we take pride in quickly restoring power to our members. Our linemen brave the storms to keep the lights on in our community.

In the event of major storm damage, being prepared can help save your life or, at the very least, make you much more comfort-able when disaster strikes.

Pack a “storm kit” for your family to have on hand. Remember, hurricanes and tornadoes often bring along heavy rains and flooding, so make sure your kit is stored in a waterproof container. Here’s a checklist to get you started:

Georgia “Storm Kit”

Water – Three-day supply (one gallon, per person, per day)

Food – Three-day supply of non-perishable food (Don’t forget your manual can opener!)

Easy clean-up – Paper cups and plates, plastic uten-sils, paper towels, garbage bags

Save for a rainy day – Cash/traveler’s checks

For the record – Copies of important documents (ID, insurance, bank accounts, etc.)

Take note – Pencil and paper to take note of damage and keep to-do lists

Bundle up – Change of clothing, sturdy shoes and enough warm blankets for everyone

First aid – First aid kit, medicines, moist towelettes, glasses

Tools – Flashlight (with extra batteries), wrench, pliers, duct tape, scissors, matches

Stay informed – Battery-powered weather radio

Think safety – Fire extinguisher, whistle to signal for help

For the kids – Infant formula, diapers, books, games, puzzles

Don’t forget to prep your pets! – Food, extra water, toys, copies of vaccination forms
