I moved back here for good in 1977
and this has always been headquar-ters. Its nice to have a home whereyou can be yourself and not feelweird about your parents buggingyou. Everyones spent a lot of timehere...Iggy...this was one of our hang-outs. Matter of fact, this is where wemet Dave Alexander. He used to live
right down the street so this subdivi-sion has a lot of meaning...goodold number 107

We were pretty much anything
goes. We werent even really tryingto do songs. Mostly it was just elec-tric jazz. Sort of a wild, free-form,energy-jazz, free-form, electricfreak out.

It wasnt until I sat cross from Ron and heshowed me how to play I Wanna Be Your Dogthat I was suddenly enlightened as to what it
is that makes the Stooges one of the greatestrock and roll bands on the planet. It wasnt theprimitivism, it wasnt the three chords and thatwhole thing about getting to the essence ofrock and rollyeah, theres something reallybeautiful about that and it was the blueprint forpunk and all that and thats greatbut it washow Ron was playing as much as what he wasplaying. He was playing it with a very sublime
swing. Thats when I realized what differenti-ates the Stooges from everything else in hardrock, high energy music...is that they reallyknew how to swing.
Original Interview, 12/9/2009
The guys in The Ramones loved andidentified with the Stooges and sortof modeled themselves after theAsheton brothers, in ways. They were abig influence. The spirit and personalityof the Asheton brothers definitely suitedthe mindset of The Ramones.

He goes, Fasten your seatbelt, heresFun House...in reverse. And he plugs
in this little pig-nose amp and startedplaying, song for song, the entire recordbackwards. It went on til about six inthe morning. He was sweating, I couldntbreathe...so fucking cool....
Original Interview, 12/15/2009
Iggy was the cherry on top, whatmade it function and made it whole. But the foundation is this noiseand its much more guitar noisethan it is anything else.Ron Ashetons guitar style is asfundamental in its own way asSteve Croppers guitar style, ScottyMoores guitar style or Chuck Ber-rys guitar style...
Original Interview, 9/25/2009
Jim:
Iggy made all these great recordsthat I love, but Iggy and Ron are just...Miles and Coltrane. Thats the crmede la crme. I mean, the guy couldplay happy birthday and it wouldsound like the Stooges.Don:Exactly! Its that sound and you cantell its in his hands, its the way he
plays it and the way it comes out ofthe amp. Anybody else could havethat setup and it doesnt sound likethat.

Fun House is one of those few master-
pieces in rock and roll. After that, theystuck Ron on bass and brought in amusician instead of an artist so youended up with music instead of art.
Original Interview , 11/22/2009
It seemed like all the people who
started all the early punk and newwave bands in America were theonly Stooges fans in their town.

Its one of those things that comes
up. Do I really wanna throw away...Do I just want to have somebody inmy life that was really important, and we did something together andthen totally throw that awayhavethat trail off into oblivion and thenend my life and have that come tonothing? Have there be no sort ofthread? No humanity in the thing?
That bothers me.
Iggy Pop, Archival Interview
The Stooges liked the british
pop stars and they all wantedto be pop stars. I liked the bluesand wanted to be, like a bluesman poet but none of us couldplay, really, so we put it to-gether and came out with theStooges.

We hadnt really sat down in the same
place with no other people aroundfor...30-odd years. Were really not thekind of guys that are like, Hey DUDE...!But you feel, physically, when yourenext to the only people that you ever didanything lasting with when you were ayoung adultthe only time in your lifethat was really burningly creativeyouwill feel something. Its a physical thing.
You feel...solid. Then we went around thecorner and had a drink and a sandwich, talked about what we were going to doand then the next day we went in andstarted doing it.

Nitebob:Ive worked with hundredsof guitar players over the past 35-40years. Ron Asheton did not sound likeanybody else. It was unique, primal,all-encompassing sound. You sat thereand went, Wow, this is big. It wasntyour usual two-hour jammy and lets go
off into space stuff.Natalie:It wasnt getting high music. It was get-ting down music.

Iggy was the show but the music
behind him...thats Ron Asheton.Thats the solid base that Iggy wasbased on. Ron Asheton stands outas a musician and thats his wealth, thats his legacy. As time passes, people who know music are goingto know Ron Asheton. I always re-member him as the quiet one, thesensible one in the stooges.
