STaR CHART
What is the STaR Chart?The STaR Chart is a survey designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.
The STaR Chart is broken down into Four Areas
Teaching and LearningEducator Preparation and Development
Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support
Infrastructure for Technology
Levels of ProgressThere are Four levels of Progress:I. Early TechII. Developing TechIII. Advanced TechIV. Target Tech

How can this data be used?Assist teachers in determining professional
development needs based on a current educational technology profile;
Determine funding priorities based on teacher and classroom needs;
Provide data that can support the need for grants or other resources;
Help conceptualize the campus or district vision of technology;
Assist campuses in documenting the use of the No Child Left Behind, Title II Part D formula and discretionary funds.
What’s Next?As a campus, collaboration is needed to
review the results of the STaR Chart and gauge where we stand in all four categories.
Once we distinguish our strengths from our weaknesses, we can proceed in developing a plan to improve in those areas.
We need to find better ways to guide our students, so they have the opportunity to use technology tools on a daily bases.
Summary As we head toward the future, we need to find ways to incorporate technology into classroom instruction. Opportunities must be provided to help teachers improve on their technology skills; they will then lead by example for their students. Educational leaders have a responsibility to encourage open communication with staff members, so they will know what technological resources are needed from year to year.
The Texas STaR Chart allows campuses to focus on areas of technological needs. It disseminates the data into four areas that are in the Long-Range Plan for Technology.
