History of St.Andrews Eve

History of that Eve started in ancient Greece on Sporad’s islands from two Greek words aner,

andros. These words mean men. And from the name Andress. People made magic tricks. At first

futuretelling was done individually. Now there are parties.

Polish traditionIn Poland on St. Andrews Eve only girls before marrying make

Predictions. The date of that Eve is 29th November. They get hot wax through the key. They push the candle onto the water. They put paper with names of boys under the pillow They write poems about St. Andrews Eve. They peel the apple, whose peeling was the longest, that one

will first get married. At midnight they sit in front of the mirror and light a candle

and they wait to see her husband’s face in the mirror.

That Eve means going to the winter time.These are last autumn days to have fun and last

parties before Christian Advent. St. Andrews Eve ends the catholic church year.
