Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I want to start out by thanking everyone for your prayers for Fr. Candelario’s aunt and grandmother who passed away last weekend. Thank you for continuing to entrust him and his family to the Lord during this time of passing and grief.
I would also like to ask for your prayers for a portion of our young people preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation later this spring. They will be going on retreat this weekend. Please pray that these days might be a moment of encounter with Christ and a deepening of their personal faith in Him.
A small group of our parishioners, under the guidance of our Facilities Manager, Bert Morrison, has been hard at work remodeling our Sacred Heart Room with a new altar space, lighting, carpeting, chairs, kneelers, and paint. Once their work is completed, we will be able to use this chapel more regularly for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The idea was explained to mean in roughly these words: “If we have adoration here, we want to make this a beautiful and prayerful place.” I could not agree more, and I look forward to showing you the fruits of their hard work once it is completed.
As Fr. Candelario reminded us last weekend in his homily, the time we spend with Christ in the Holy Eucharist, either at Mass or in adoration, is time that we spend with Someone that we know loves us and with Whom we are deeply in love.
We need to allow the love of Christ to transform us. Hopefully, each and every one of us wants to allow ourselves to be loved more deeply by Christ and allow our hearts to become more and more like His. The document of the United States Bishops entitled The Mystery of the Eucharist in the Life of the Church includes a quote that is said to have come from St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, “‘We must pray to Jesus to give us that tenderness of the Eucharist. Unless we believe and see Jesus in the appearance of bread on the altar, we will not be able to see him in the distressing disguise of the poor’” (37).
When it comes to looking and loving like Christ, I know I have a long way to go. But it is my constant prayer to Him to have a heart like His. Pray for me, that I might love the way that Christ does. And I will pray for you, that you might experience His goodness and give that love to those who need it most.
Yours in Christ, Fr. Matthew

Don’t Be the NEXT VICTIM!
It happened again! Please be reminded not to leave your purse or any valuables in plain view. Someone’s car was broken into last Thursday while Mass was going on and took the purse that was in plain sight. Thieves are still around so please, please, don’t be the next victim.
FLOCKNOTE Please note: every now and then someone who was previously signed-up to get our messages/bulletins/etc. stops getting them. If that happens, please, just go to our parish website, sichurch.com and look for the Flock-note section. (Sorry, we can’t do it for you as it will ask for some PERSONAL INFORMATION -where they will send you an email which YOU have to reply to. Thank you).
Do you know someone who is homebound and would like to receive a visit from a Legion of Mary member and receive the Eucharist? Please contact Rose Romero at 510-304-1044 or rxyrose@gmail.com
to be included in their schedule. As Legion of Mary members, you become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Legion members meet on Tuesday mornings for prayer, planning and discussion. On another day of the week, under the guidance of our pastor, members in pairs visit the homebound to bring them the Holy Eucharist. The Legion of Mary is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor.
