Squirrels are small animals, ranging in size from 7–10 cm in length and 10 g in weight, to 53–73 cm long and weighs from 5 to 8 kg. Squirrels skinny bodies with bushy tails and large eyes. Their fur is soft and silky, and thick. Their back legs are longer than the front legs, and they have four or five toes on each paw. Their paws include a poorly developed thumb, and have soft pads on the undersides. The eastern gray squirrel can descend a tree head-first. It does this by turning its feet so the claws of its hind paws are backward-pointing and can grip the tree bark. They have large eyes and an excellent sense of vision. They also have very strong claws for grabing and climbing. Many also have a good sense of touch.

SQUIRRLESINTRODUCTIONThe word "squirrel", first specified in 1327, comes from Anglo-Norman esquirel from the Old French escurel, the reflex of a Latin word sciurus. Squirrels communicate with each other through various vocalizations and scent marking. They also use there tails as a signaling device, twitching it when uneasy to alert other squirrels of potential danger.

HABITAT The grey squirrel can be found in a wide range of habitats, including woodland, suburban parks and domestic gardensSquirrels prefer to live where there is an abundance of food. Usually, this is an area with nut- and seed-producing plants. Squirrels also like areas that produce many grasses and plants, because the new plant shoots are edible. Squirrels have to live in places that have trees, even in a city. This is because squirrels build nests in the trees, specifically for bearing young

Squirrels live in the snow or in in the woods where they can find food.
