• Community Sport Activation Fund is a £47.5 million Lottery funding programme provide grassroots activity at a very local level.

• Projects can apply for £50,000 - £250,000 for community projects

• Round 3 Sport England relaxed the requirement for partnership funding for projects which will directly benefit the most deprived communities in England based on the English Indices of Deprivation (IMD).If the substantial majority (80% or more) of the targeted participants for your project live in local authority ward areas with an IMD score of 25 or higher then an application could be made without partnership funding.

Background

Demographics

• In 2012/13 (APS7) 22.1% of those aged 16+ in Stevenage participated in sport 3 times per week,below the Hertfordshire average of 26.14% but higher than the National average of 17.4%.

• This is the key performance indicator for Sports Development in Stevenage.

• Only 32% of the adult population of Stevenage participate in 1x30mins of sport per week, the lowest in Hertfordshire and significantly lower than the Hertfordshire average of 39.8%. This is also lower than the National Average of 35.7%.

• At present 38% residents of Stevenage were involved in a local community club or society (Sept 2012) with approximately 40% carrying out some kind of voluntary work within a month.

• Bedwell has a higher proportion of females and a lower proportion of males than the town as a whole.

• The proportion of females in Bedwell decreased by 1.6% between the 2001 and 2011 Census.

• Comparatively the proportion of females across the town decreased by 0.3% in this period.
