Social Media for Medical Home for Special Needs Children of Western MANovember 14, 2012

Margot Malachowski, Outreach LibrarianBaystate Health Sciences Library

Cassidy Hayes, InternUMASS School of Public Health

We started with a Facebook Group.

And posted events and news stories.

But it was connected to our personal email addresses and Facebook profiles.

So, we opened with a gmail account.

And, with the gmail account, we started a WordPress blog, Facebook Page, Twitter account, and opened a HootSuite account to manage it all.

We post about our monthly meetings on the blog.

We post news stories. We provide a link to our Facebook page.

We hyperlink to relevant resources & have our twitter feed on the blog.

The Facebook page uses the same iStock photo (more about that later). So far, only 5 people Like us.

We post news stories and share information from similar organizations.

We use Twitter in the same way. We create stories with hyperlinks.

We retweet others’ stories if we find they are relevant to our interests.

To get ourselves organized, we opened a HootSuite account. This is a management system for social media.

After logging in, we can post to Twitter, Facebook and the blog. We can set up posts to be published in the future.

Images. Do we want to purchase photos from iStock? Or do we want to get a logo created?

The iStock photos are inexpensive. We can use them if we are not selling the images, but they should not be used as a logo.
