A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTISTIC D IRECTOR – B ILL THE ISEN
Welcome to Gershwin and Friends, our 9th Skylight Studio Theatre production!
Who would have guessed back in 2005 when we tested the waters with our first Studio Theatre show that we would have come this far in just 5 years. I have been wanting to program the music of George Gershwin ever since I began as artistic director
in 2004 and now, not only are we bringing you his glorious tunes, but adding to the fun we are including the work of some of his remarkable contemporaries: Harold Arlen, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington. Combine these classic songs with the incredible talents of Cynthia Cobb, Parrish Collier and Paul Helm and we have a show destined to bring down the house every single night.
Thank you for your continued support of the Skylight and especially our Studio Series. Because of your support, we are able to keep growing and finding new ways of bringing our Skylight audience, and all of Southeastern Wisconsin for that matter, the full- spectrum of musical theatre.
I hope you enjoy your trip to New York City in the 1930’s and the music that only Gershwin and his very special friends could create.
Bill Theisen
A MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR – AMY S. JENSEN
Thank you for joining us in the Studio Theatre for Gershwin and Friends. We are so glad that you are ringing in the New Year with us.
After starting our season off with a nautical theme, we are setting course in decidedly different directions for the remainder of our season. Join us in February for Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. Brel will be the Skylight
directorial debut of our Associate Artistic Director, Ray Jivoff. In March, we bring you a contemporary take on Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte.
Finally, we are extremely excited to bring you Adding Machine-A Musical at the end of our season. We recently received wonderful news of a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts supporting this production. We will be delighted to welcome composer Josh Schmidt back to his hometown of Milwaukee during the run of this show.
I hope you enjoy an evening full of hits with Gershwin and Friends and please join us throughout the remainder of our season for an intriguing array of stories that sing! Best wishes for a happy and music-filled 2011.
