8 Components of the Health Program
1. Comprehensive School Health Education:
-Classroom teacher responsible to teach all health education.
-Must teach a heath lesson twice a week.
2. School Health Services:
-1 fulltime nurse on school grounds throughout the entire school year.
Responsible for:
-Screening of vision, hearing, height, weight, and BMI every 2 years.
-Individual Heath Plans
-Medication Distribution
-Immunization Records
-Minor Injuries

3. Physical Education:
-Children participate in 4 straight days of physical education and then are given 8 days off where recess replaces Physical Education.
-Follows 6 standards to promote physical activity and health education.
-1 Physical Education Teacher
4. Healthful and Safe School: Environment:
-Follows a Zero-Tolerance policy when it comes to drugs, alcohol, and weapons.
-Safety Patrols at all crossings (6th Graders)
5. Nutrition Services:
-Lunch- $2.30, Breakfast- $1.40
-Free and reduced breakfast and lunch offered.
-Menus available online and in the newspaper.
-Trying to adopt more fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms, but has
not been adopted yet because of costs.
6. Counseling, Psychological, and Social Services:
-School Psychologist on staff 2 ½ days a week.
- Responsible for: Counseling about family change, behavior difficulties, ADHD and many other subjects. Also, responsible for referrals to outside agencies.
7. Health Promotion for Staff:
-Neither the District or school website have any information about promoting the health of their faculty.
-The district does provide health insurance for all teachers
8. Family and Community Involvement:
- All teachers have their own web page to convey messages to students and parents.
-The district policy allows for plenty of family involvement & volunteering.
