SEVEN KEY ELEMENTS OF SANCTIFICATION Part 2

2 Corinthians 12:20-21

SANCTIFICATIONThe act of making holy. In an

evangelical sense, the act of God's grace by which the affections of

men are purified or alienated from sin and the world, and exalted to a

supreme love to God.

John 17:17-19 (NKJV) 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your

word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also

have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the

truth.

1. The problem with unrepentance.

Contentions: debates, strife, wrangling.

Envyings: Zelos – can have a connotation of godly zeal, but here is used in a negative way. Basically it is jealousy, self-centeredness that causes people to be suspicious of

others as potential rivals.

Outbursts of wrath: angry tempers.

Selfish ambitions: ambitious rivalries, factious attitudes,

divisiveness, and partisanship.

Backbitings: defamation, evil speaking.

Whisperings: quite, subtle, behind the back defamation.

Conceits: a puffing up of soul, loftiness, pride.

tumults: instability, a state of disorder, confusion.

Uncleanness: physically or morally unclean.

Fornication: where we get our English word pornography – refers to a sexual act outside of marriage.

Lewdness: unbridled lust.

Psalm 38:1-8

2. The joy of repentance.

Repent: to change one’s mind.

Acts 26:19-20 (NKJV) 19 "Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and

do works befitting repentance.

2 Timothy 2:19-22

Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV) 13 He who covers his sins will not

prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
