September 20-22, 2018 Szeged, Hungary
INVITATIONOn behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to invite you and your co-
workers to participate in the 12th Central European Symposium on Pharmaceutical
Technology and Regulatory Aff airs, held for the second time in Hungary.
THE 12TH CESPTThe initiative to hold Central European scientifi c meetings that deal with pharmaceutical technology
arose in the late 1980s as a result of the long-standing collaboration between the departments for
pharmaceutical technology of the Faculties of Pharmacy in Trieste, Italy, and Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The 1st CESPT was held in 1995 under the patronage of EUFEPS to follow the recommendations
of the EUFEPS assembly dedicated to the organization of regional thematic scientifi c meetings in
Europe. The subsequent events were successfully organized twice in Portoroz (Slovenia), then
in Vienna (Austria), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Siófok (Hungary), then again in Ljubljana (Slovenia),
followed by Graz (Austria), Dubrovnik (Croatia), and Portoroz (Slovenia), with the last symposium
held in Belgrade (Serbia) in 2016. With time, the CESPT evolved into a well-established platform to
promote new scientifi c, professional and business connections, and a recognized event that regularly
attracts over 200 professionals worldwide - and particularly from Central and Eastern Europe - from
industry, academia and the regulatory bodies alike. Following this tradition, CESPT2018 provides
an outstanding and exclusive forum to share new ideas and perceptions of the academic, industrial
and regulatory aspects of pharmaceutical technology, to form networks with members of the
pharmaceutical community, and to discuss cutting-edge research fi ndings and experiences.

ABOUT SZEGEDSzeged – the 3rd largest city in Hungary – is the educational, scientifi c and
cultural centre of the Southern Great Plain. The University of Szeged, the
Biological Research Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the
new ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) Laser Research Centre; the National
Theatre, the city’s museums and galleries, as well as its health and wellness
spas are only a few reasons why Szeged is famous and worth visiting for. With
the highest number of sunny
hours in Hungary, Szeged is also often called the “City of
Sunshine”, where more than 160.000 inhabitants, including
20.000 national and international students, live and enjoy
the pleasant sub-Mediterranean climate.
AIMS AND SCOPES The 12th CESPT in 2018 off ers a perfect opportunity to continue and extend the original aims of the
successful series of symposiums held so far. The focus of the meeting will be oriented to the tailoring
of advanced drug delivery systems for personalized medicine of specifi c populations via the use of
advanced manufacturing technologies and adopting recent regulatory guidelines. For this purpose,
various kinds of expertise are needed from the deep understanding of the chemical, physicochemical,
technological and pharmacokinetic aspects to the preclinical and clinical evaluations to translate all
possible speed basic laboratory concepts into advanced clinical settings. The challenges generated
by new concepts and achievements in pharmaceutical technology will be addressed by excellent
researchers attending the symposium from both academia and industry. Lively and productive
discussions among the symposium participants will help achieve the major goal of the symposium,
namely to provide answers to the above-mentioned questions, to initiate common research projects,
and to foster the application of results generating from new approaches in order to accelerate the
development and the introduction of safer and more eff ective medicines.
I am looking forward to seeing you in Szeged at this year’s fruitful and lively conference!
Dr. Ildikó Csóka
President of the Symposium
