Sample Workflow for MS Word◦ Create your content

◦ Use Styles and Formatting options to designate headings

◦ Use Word tools for layout (e.g., Column tool)

◦ Add appropriate alternative text for images

Creating the PDF Document from MS Word◦ Using Styles and Formatting

◦ Adding Text Descriptions

◦ Specifying Table Headers

Save the PDF as Text (Accessible) or Plain Text

◦ Check for incorrect reading order

◦ Text (Accessible) will display alternative text information, Tool Tips from forms

Review the zones on thePDF document

Watch for:◦ multiple columns

Adobe Acrobat 5.x, 6.x, 7.x and 8 allow for access and security

Can restrict document printing, copy/paste functionality, form field completion, etc.

Open the Document Properties (Ctrl+D) to change the Security Method

For best compatibility and security, choose Acrobat 5.0 and later

Ensure the checkbox for enabling text access is selected
