ThecrewoftheScobeeEducationCenterwouldliketoinviteyoutojoinusasweembarkuponcelestialadventuresaboardournewlyrenovatedScobeeplanetariumandstate-of-the-artChallengerLearningCentersimulator.AlignedtotheTEKS,Scobeeexperienceswillreinforceyourlessonsandopendoorwaysfornewlearningconnections.

TheScobeePlanetariumhasbeenlocatedatSanAntonioCollegesince1961andhasundergoneaseriesofrenovationstoinstallanewDigistar5projectionsystemwithhigherresolutionanddynamic,brightercolors.Neverbeforehaveplanetariumpresentationscomealiveasdotheydonowwithcomputergeneratedanimationsandstrikingimageryfromacrossthecosmos.Weofferavarietyofpresentationssuitableforgradespre-Kthrough12th.Studyingastronomyandspacescienceintheplanetariumdometakeslearningintoanewdimension.Upto101adventurersmayrocketthroughthesolarsystemwithanimatedtourguides,sailthroughtheconstellationsofthenightskyortakeaprecariousjourneyintoablackhole.Thereare21programstochoosefromwithnewchildren’sprogramsbeingaddedinthefallof2016.

TheChallengerLearningCenterisauniqueinteractivesimulatorwhere32participantsbecomeimmersedintherolesofastronauts,scientists,doctorsandengineersinmissioncontroloraboardaspacecrafttravelingtotheInternationalSpaceStationorMoonBaseAlpha.Communicationandinterpersonalteamworkskillsarereinforcedthrougheveryaspectofthemissionasthecrewisimmersedinhands-onrole-playinginaoneofakind,nextgenerationsimulatorunlikeanyotheracrosstheglobalChallengercommunity.

Schoolsmayconduct theirownwalking tour, butmaynotenter thebuildings so asnottodisturbthecollegeclassesthatarein-session.Agerestrictionsapply,shouldparentsbringsiblings, seeprogramdescriptions.Programsareapproximately50minutes long.Theminimumrequirement is 25 total people-this figure includes students plus adults. isdueonthedateofthefieldtrip.7. For school groups bringing a lunch, please remember the Scobee Education Center does not

have an indoor eating area. Tables and chairs are set-up outside on our patio and outsidearoundourcollegecampus.Also,there isalargepublicparkacrossthestreetattheSanPedroSprings Park. Since the park is for the general public, school groups do not need to make areservation. But please keep in mind the timeframe of your scheduled visit. In other words,alwaysbemindfuloftheweatherandhaveaback-upplanforlunch.

8. We are often asked if there are other activities to do in and around the center. We have 4

displays that are in our lobby area thatwere donated to us by the SW Research Center. Theobjects in thedisplaycaseswereactually flown in space.Wealsohavea SpaceSuit forphotoops.Our second-floor is closed to visitors because this is ouroffice spaces and sometimeswehavemeetingstakingplace.ThethirdfloorisourObservatoryandit isclosedtovisitorsduringtheday.ItisonlyavailableonFridayevenings,weatherpermitting.
