These are the Library’s best resources for chemistry students, organized by type.

Use the Articles & Databases tab to find journal articles about your topic.

SciFinder lets you search for information related to biology, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, marine biology, oceanography, and physics.

Log in with TRACKS.

Create an account if you don’t have one, being sure to use your FIT email address.

If you have an account, log in with your SciFinder username and password.

ALWAYS access SciFinder from the Evans Library website to authenticate your account.

Log in.

Accept the terms of use: SciFinder is for educational use only.

The Help menu will tell you about the scope of SciFinder.When you’re finished, be sure to

Sign Out! The Library has a limited number of seats for SciFinder.

Click Introduction, SciFinder Content to view the scope.

Scroll down to What You Can Find to see the types of information provided.

Click EXPLORE TASKS, Explore References, Tips for Specifying a Research Topic to read about how the search strategies are handled.

Explore References

Search by options

Limit by options

Type in chemical name, common name (aspirin, bleach), or CAS registry number to find articles.

Explore Substances

Use the Substance Identifier to type in the name or registry number of your substance, instead of drawing it.

Draw your substance or reaction with drag/drop editor, then click OK.

Click Substance Detail to view CAS information.

Analyze by options

Click References to view articles.

Analyze by options

Optionally, limit results.

Clicking the Full Text link finds your article in a database, or provides a link to submit an interlibrary loan.

Analyze by options

Mark records to export to RefWorks.

Click Export.

Select Tagged Format.

Export.

Save File.

Log in to RefWorks. Select References, Import.

Import Filter/Data Source = CAS SciFinder

Database = Multiple Databases

Browse for your file – probably in Downloads – then Import.

Be sure to check your references!

You can check for Full Text from RefWorks.
