So what New technologies did we use for the virtual learning day
Learning app and some uses
Challenges Moving forward
Articulate storyline access through Moodle interactive resource for virtually any type of assessment
Slow, hard to open on and ipad. Pop up blockers on some devices prevented access
Simplify the use of this resource to easy to navigate assessments
Prezi - cloud based multi media presentation tool , create, share, report, present
Difficult for students to print off for evidence. advanced presentation tool that can challenges learners
Google docs/slidesSimple to use, can collaborate, share - using google forms submission can be easily tracked
Popplet - mind-mapping tool for collaboration, contrast, distinguish, report, compare, evaluate
Difficult to use as will not open on some devices
Mindmeister add on through google docs/slides- easier to navigate and build into documents and assignments
Pinterest - research, collaboration, compare, contrast, examine, contrast
Pictures - college social media policy block certain pictures
Unblocked instagram and other social networking sites.
Google drive - create, report, analyse, collaborate, share, present
Difficult to register students when using college systems

What did we use?
HOW DID WE KNOW THE DAY
WORKED?
Attendance for day via learning apps 30% 67% 100% 95% 94% 100%
Interim report of the virtual learning day
Attendance across level 3 was higher than actual college attendance
The challenges - Discuss
● POP UP BLOCKERS● COLLEGE SYSTEMS AND STUDENT ACCESS FROM HOME● WIFI● DATA USAGE FOR STUDENTS● PASSWORDS● SOCIAL MEDIA SITES BLOCKED
There have been issues with the use of the Ipads as they are not singler user. All are linked to same account.
There are several sources of support, including the multimedia technicians, Learning leaders, ITSS and the VLE team to address issues with the use of these new technologies.
Advantages - Discuss
● Students work at own pace● learners had an insight into distance learning● Engage students and the hair and beauty department in a 21st
century way of learning● Some learners were more vocal in communicating with tutor via
technology than they would be in a classroom situation● Money, travel and childcare issues led learners to ask if this
could be integrated into the programme on a more regular basis● Opportunity to try out new technologies before the move to the
printworks● Techno phobe staff had the opportunity to engage with
technology with the support of other staff
Moving forward - What do we need to do next.
More staff training in the use of Google apps for Education.Look at the technologies we use and identify the ones for best practice.Student mentoring in the use of new technologies.Share best practice.
