Description

• They work to serve the less fortunate.• Give work and/or experience to special needs

people and to people from another country.• 10-15 workers/ volunteers work there.

My work

• Cut fruit, vegetables and meat.• Sorted food in storage area.• Cleaned dishes.• Set up lunch• Put stuff away• Threw stuff out

New skills

• Cutting the correct way• Being on time• Wearing good clothes for certain activities• Being very clean when working with food

First day of work

• Really freaked out, at some point I calmed down

• Got a mini tour of the place. Mostly cut potatoes the whole day

Best day

• One time at lunch I ate the best pizza ever!!• All the food was amazing but the pizza there

was awesome!!

Worst day

• I woke up really late and I arrived on time but I was really tired.

• Thankfully no one noticed I was sleepy and being slow that day

Funniest day

• My employer was describe one of the many times he nearly caused his parents to divorce.

• He stole his mom’s nutcracker collection and buried them in his backyard. His dad then had to go search for them and it was them middle of winter. (it was funny at the time it was being told)

Surprises

• The food it was just that great• The people- most were really nice and helpful.

I am proud on myself for…

• Being able to not lose it with some of the special needs people.

• Being able to help the less fortunate.• Being able to get use to a new environment.

Challenges

• Getting to work- it was hard because I had to pay to get on a bus so I’d have to save up money to get on sometimes

• Working with special needs people- it was really difficult for me.

Education

• You don’t need an education to work here it’s accepting of whatever you I.Q is.

• But I think you need to at least of gone to school in order to work there.

Changes

• Try to have more things for the student to do in the work placement and try to not make some of the work repetitive

• Try not getting the student to work with someone that’ll obviously annoying them.

I could improve…

• My social skills- some of the people at my work didn’t know I was bad at it.

• Stretching- you’ve got to carry certain stuff so it requires bending down a lot so stretching would a lot help.

Would I do this again?

• No, why not? It got tiring after a few weeks. It was mostly all the same easy thing with the same people. Also it didn’t really interest me too much.
