Please remember St. Joseph’s Parish in your will
The mission of St. Joseph’s Church is to be a welcoming, caring, Christ-centered Catholic community. We desire to
experience and share God’s unconditional love. Inspired by the example of Jesus, we strive to lead all people to
wholeness and fullness of life.

The Sacrament of Marriage is celebrated after a period of preparation of no less than six months. Those who wish to marry at St. Joseph’s are invited to contact one of the priests during regular weekday office hours before making any other arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated, on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available at any time to any Catholic over the age of reason who is seriously ill, preparing for surgery or suffering the effects of age. The priests of the parish regularly celebrate the Eucharist and administer the sacrament of the sick at the area nursing homes; lay ministers lead services and bring communion to the residents every Sunday.

COLD / FLU SEASON SOME HELPFUL HINTS

During the Lenten Season we are called to Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving. On Ash Wednesday, February 14th, we will have a single collection at each of the Masses and half of the proceeds will be given to the Missionaries of Charity. This is the Religious Order of Women founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta. They do tremendous work among the poorest of the poor right here in NYC. Our donation will help toward this good work.
One of the most beautiful documents of the 2nd Vatican Council is the Document on the Reform of the Liturgy- Sacrosanctum Concilium. The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. Subsequently the Instruc-tion on Music in the Sacred Liturgy states: Instruction on Music in the Sacred Liturgy, Sacred Congregation of Rites, 5 March 1967. Pastors of souls should take care that besides the vernacular "the faithful also know how to say or sing, in Latin also, those parts of the Ordinary of the Mass which pertain to them." To this end during the Lenten Season on Sundays and some weekdays we will sing the Holy- Holy- Holy- Sanctus- Sanctus- Sanctus in Latin as well as the Lamb of God- Agnus Dei. This is in keeping with our rich tradition of sacred music and worship in the Roman Catholic Rite.
St. Joseph's Seniors will NOT meet in Febru-
ary. Hope to see everyone at our next meeting on
March 5. Details to follow in your next newsletter.

On January 16, NY’s Governor Cuomo presented his proposed budget to the Legislature.
In the Governor’s budget is a version of the Abor-tion Expansion Plan that he previously pushed as
part of his “Women’s Equality Act”.
This proposal would: Encourage more late-term abortions – by removing our current law’s limit on abortions after 24 weeks.
Permit non-doctors to do abortions – a license to per-form abortions would be entirely within the discretion of State bureaucrats. In fact, anyone could do an abortion and the only penalty they might face is a prosecution for practicing medicine without a license.
Eliminate all criminal penalties for abortions – so even if an abortion was involuntary or coerced, or if the unborn child was targeted for an act of violence, it could not be prosecuted.
Endanger children even after birth – by eliminating a law that requires that a baby born alive after an abortion be giv-en adequate health care. Instead, this bill would allow abor-tionists to leave those children to die of neglect and starvation.
This scheme by the Governor is particularly danger-ous because by law a budget must be passed
The only way to remove an item from the Governor’s proposed budget bill is to put it on the table for negotiations between him and the leaders of the Assembly and Senate – and since three of those people are ardently “pro-choice”, the task will be truly daunting.
We are asking people to contact their Senators and urge them to oppose the budget bill if the abortion expansion
proposal is in it. We are particularly asking those who are represented by a Republican in the State Senate to urge their Senator to speak to Senator Flanagan, the Majority Leader, to insist that this provision be stripped from the
final budget bill.
