There are many different types of safety symbols that you must be familiar with:- Safety symbols from your textbook- HHPS- WHMIS- MSDS

SAFETY SYMBOLS FROM YOUR TEXTBOOK

For each activity in your textbook, you will be shown particular safety symbols.

Refer to the following pages in your textbook:

Grade 11: xiii

Grade 12: xiii

You must be familiar with all of these symbols before we complete any laboratory investigation

HHPS (Hazardous Household Product Symbols)

HHPS symbols are found on products you commonly find in the house or garden

WHMIS symbols provide key safety and handling information in the form of special labels and symbols on dangerous chemicals used in the workplace or school

WHMIS symbols are used as a first alert

WHMIS symbols identify the product as controlled and alerts workers or handlers to the hazards and safe handling procedures of the product

All symbols are in circles

MSDS sheets must be no older than three years old
