Entrance: Sing a New Song #546 Sing a new song unto the Lord; Let your song be sung from mountains high. Sing a new song unto the Lord, Singing alleluia.
Shout with gladness! Dance for joy! O come before the Lord. And play for God on glad tambourines, and let your trumpet sound.
Rise, O children, from your sleep; your Savior now has come. He has turned your sorrow to joy, and filled your soul with song.
First Reading: Acts 1:15-17, 20a, 20c-26
Responsorial Psalm The Lord has set his throne in heaven.
Second Reading: 1 John 4:11-16
Gospel: John 17:11b-19 Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Offertory: I Have Loved You #602 I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have called you and you are mine; I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have called you and you are mine.
Seek the face of the Lord and long for him: he will bring you his light and his peace.
Seek the face of the Lord and long for him: he will bring you his joy and his hope.
Seek the face of the Lord and long for him: he will bring you his care and his love
Communion: Now In This Banquet Now in this banquet, Christ is our bread; Here shall all hungers be fed. Bread that is broken, wine that is poured, Love is the sign of our Lord.
Recessional: I Am the Bread of Life #325 I am the bread of life. You who comes to me shall not hunger; and who believes in me shall not thirst. No one can come to me unless the Father beckons. And I will raise you up, and I will raise you up, and I will raise you up on the last day. The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world, and if you eat of this bread, you shall live for ever, you shall live for ever. Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink of his blood, and drink of his blood, you shall not have life within you.

From the Pastor’s Desk The Seventh Sunday of Easter: Keep them in your name
Our first reading today reminds us of the continuation of the ministry of the apostles by the “election” of Matthias, to replace Judas. The apostles entrusted their task to the Holy Spirit and prayed about which of the two candidates was chosen by God. Do we, too, pray about all the important decisions we have to make? Do we ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit and trust that God is listening to our prayers? As we prepare for the Solemnity of Pentecost, let us renew our acceptance of the gifts the Holy Spirit gives us. And not only accept those gifts, but really use them, for the glory and honor of God and for the good of our own salvation and that of others, to whom we are sent in the name of the Risen Lord. The second reading from the First Letter of John offers us simple reminders: God is love and He loves us and remains in us. Our relationship with the Lord, built on mutual love and fidelity, is stronger than any human relationship we have. That mutual love and fidelity is at the heart of our testifying on God’s behalf; it is at the center of our faith. How do we express our love for God? How does it compare with the way we express our love for people? How have we recently acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God? Our Gospel reading today (John 17:11b-19) contains a prayer that Jesus offers for his disciples and therefore, it is a prayer that is offered for US, too! Jesus prays, asking the Father to keep us in His name. He prays for unity among the disciples, for a complete sharing in his joy, for protection from the evil one, to be consecrated in the truth of God’s word. He then tells the Father that he is sending them into the world, just as he has been sent into the world. That sure is a lot to ask for, don’t you think? But remember Jesus assured us to seek, knock and ask – and he models that for us, just us he modeled service by washing the feet of his disciples, as he modeled forgiveness asking from the cross that the Father forgive his executioners, as he modeled fidelity to God the Father, by fulfilling the Father’s will and not his own. My brothers and sisters, let us unite ourselves more closely to Jesus by praying, as he did, for unity, protection, complete joy and sharing the mission of all his disciples, past and present.
Be Sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit On behalf of the entire parish, I would like to congratulate the 32 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this past Monday evening. (They were joined by several additional students from Christ the King and St. Peter’s parishes.) It was an honor and great joy to welcome Bishop Edward Whalen back to Sacred Heart to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with our candidates. Bishop Whalen’s enthusiasm, practical advice, and pastoral approach is so much appreciated by our students, their parents, sponsors and families. Let us continue to pray that these young men and women will find in our parish the support and example they need to live good Christian lives, to participate actively in the Catholic Church, and to take up the Lord’s command to go forth, proclaiming our faith. Let us pray that we will be inspired by their enthusiasm, their energy and their joy as we continue our own journey in faith. I would like to congratulate and thank all the parents, families and those who sponsored these young men and women for the sacrament of Confirmation and I would also to thank those catechists who helped to prepare them for this wonderful moment in the life. Thanks to all those who assisted in any way to make the celebration so beautiful, reverent, and Spirit-filled. Bishop Whalen concluded the liturgy by inviting all families to return to church for the celebration of Mass each Sunday. While remaining vigilant and health conscious, we recognize that students are playing on their school sports teams, folks are eating out in restaurants more, families are traveling or planning to travel, more and more restrictions are loosening weekly…Why not come back to church?

Advanced Notice: SHHS Scholarship Dinner The Sacred Heart High School Scholarship Dinner will be held on Thursday, November 4th, at Pelham Park. This annual event helps to fund scholarships for students attending Sacred Heart High School. It recognizes both excellent academic performance and demonstrated financial need. Due to the pandemic, this important fund raiser was postponed twice before being cancelled. In fact, all of our major fundraisers were cancelled last year because of the pandemic. We are so grateful for the many different levels of support that so many of our parishioners have demonstrated toward the parish and the high school. Please accept my sincere gratitude for everything you do for Sacred Heart. I am humbled, inspired and grateful.
