To experience is to live Humanly

Symbols tell a human story-share a symbol that is part of your human story.

We encounter God's presence and grace coming to meet us through the ordinary of life- through our minds and bodies, our works and efforts, in the depths of our own being, through events and experiences that come our

way, through all forms of human art and creativity, through nature and the whole created order, through everything and anything of life.

The liturgical sacraments are the climax of the 'liturgy of life.' (Rahner)

Sacramentality - something distinct

What is a Sacrament?

The Latin word sacramentum means "a sign of the sacred."

Visible signs and actions of the Church that make visible God’s presence.

‘Doors’ to the sacred.

Closely connected to significant events in a person’s life.

Celebrated in a community.

A symbol of God’s care for us in Christ.

(Joseph Martos)

Presence of God

Sacraments arise out of human interaction with the world and God.

They aim to narrate and celebrate the story of human encounters with the objects, situations and other humans that then evoke and make present an encounter with God.

Sacraments are sacred actions of the Church through which God is present. In the Sacraments, words, actions and symbols are used to communicate God’s presence and action.

Sacraments are celebrations of Christian tradition, of Christian life and of Christian hope. They share the dimensions of past, present and future that give ordinary celebrations meaning.
