What is RSS?RSS (most commonly expanded as Really SimpleSyndication) is a family of web feed formats used topublish frequently updated works—such as blog entries,news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardizedformat.

An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed", or

"channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata

such as publishing dates and authorship.

How Do RSS Feeds in AquaBrowser Work?After searching in AquaBrowser, you may

clickon    for :

•All new materials in the full SDLN catalog •New materials which match your search

Search Searching is easy and straightforward with AquaBrowser

Library. The user enters a search term into the query box and presses “Enter” or selects the “Search” button.

SearchSearch results will appear in a list ranked by relevance to

the term(s)entered. You will see the button on the results

screen

To subscribe to a feed, click “Subscribe to this feed”

To subscribe to a feed, and add it to a feed reader,right click on one of the links, choose Copy

You can now paste the link into your feed reader

You may also prepare links to pre-constructed searches which you may place on your library web page.

Examples are:

•New Books, Videos, etc. in your library•New Materials in a particular collection

For New Videos in a specific library:

•Start at the AquaBrowser welcome page for a specific library•Click Advanced•Select the format type from the dropdown list•Click search •On the results page, click the RSSFeeds button •Click on the link you wish to view•Copy the link from the new window

 Start at the AquaBrowser welcome page for a specific library, example: http://searchsdln.aquabrowser.com/?c_profile=MIT, the last three letters are your library ADM code

Additional information

 The feeds are updated as data is updated in AquaBrowser. We are currently running a full bib export from our database on a weekly basis, and incremental updates each night. If the number of items retrieved via the feed exceeds 100, the feed will default to 100 items. If the number of items is less than 100, all items will be included.
